Article on Summit Entertainment Picking Up Gavin Hood's Ender's Game Movie: Ender's Game Movie Moving Forward Quickly
After Gavin Hood's poor handling of The Wolverine franchise fans will have to keep their fingers crossed that he can pull off a half-decent representation of the world that is Ender's Game. There are ALOT of things that any movie adaptation of Ender's Game ought be weary of when transferring the book to the screen, such things as:
Ender and friends are children from 3 to 7 for most of the book yet act mostly as young adults, the gravitational physics battle room, the look of the aliens, how time passes in the film, Ender's dream world, and the sort of back and forth of reality as we see it out of Ender's eyes. Also a whole political Internet undertone...
There is just ALOT to cover in Ender's Game, and not too mention, there is a whole series of Ender novels, A whole LOT of story going on...
Orson Scott Card has really wanted a movie adaptation of Ender's Game for a long time, although it is said that he has also passed on a number of opportunities, waiting for a faithful adaptation. I can't say I trust Gavin Hood, but hopefully Scott Card is behind it as well, hopefully he has some influence and the movie is at least three hours long. Take a sip of the Giant's Drink and hope for the best.

I have met Card a few times...he is always adamant that the movie adaption be faithful and tries to keep his hands in it. He has been very careful not to lose control of his work...while i don't have faith in Hood, I think Card will keep it pretty true to the book.

has anyone at Summit even read the books? Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are not the types of books that will translate into movies the same kids who loved Harry Potter and Twilight are going to want to see.
also, considering the subject matter the only way to make this a faithful adaptation is to make it R rated. Ender brutally kills 2 kids himself in the book. add in just the general tone, the psychotic way his brother acts and the lack of seemingly any care from an adult figure and there is no way this can be done in a way to make kids want to see it unless they drastically change it.

@l0rdleg0las- I am considering the possibility that this movie might end up being dumbed down a GREAT deal. Hopefully this will not be the case.

This is only a good idea if they can find children actors good enough to portray complex adult emotions and if they stay TRUE to the book. I have faith in Card, not Hood

This was one of the greatest science fiction novels ever written! Including the follow-up "Speaker for the Dead." I hope this will be treated with respect. If you have not read this book READ IT !!!
