Playing The RED RANGER Would Be A Dream Come True For Robbie Amell

With a Power Rangers reboot just around the corner, more than a few up-and-coming actors, The Flash star Robbie Amell included, have expressed interest in joining the Lionsgate film.

Late last night, Robbie Amell, who already plays the badass Firestorm in the hit CW series The Flash, expressed interest in playing one of most iconic superheroes of the past two decades, the Red Mighty Morphin Power Ranger!

The upcoming Power Rangers reboot, which is due out July 22, 2016, has flown under the radar for the most part, possibly due to the high volume of heavyweight CBMs also releasing in the 2016 calendar year. However, with rumors that the new MMPR film will shoot sometime this year, it shouldn't be too long before we start to hear casting news. So, nice time for a segue, would Robbie Amell, who describes playing the Red Ranger as a childhood dream, be a good fit for the film? Although he is slightly older than a teenager at 26, he certainly has the acting chops and also shares a similar look with the original Red Ranger Austin St. John, who portrayed arguably the greatest Power Ranger ever, Jason Lee Scott.

Check out the bit of fan art, that Amell tweeted out, below and don't forget to sound off with your thoughts in the usual spot!
Also, feel free to check out this old FAN CAST done by a young CBM editor.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hits theaters July 22, 2016

If the Green/White Ranger/Tommy Oliver are not part of this and are not the leader, this movie will be lame.

"Not as iconic as that sleeveless flannel shirt that geek is wearing.
Anybody who even admits to liking this shit should be embarrassed."

.....Ya, have you forgotten where you are. This is a fansite for comicbook movies.... I sir, am a geek. Though I have changed, a geek I still am. And i think it is pretty safe to say that there are many geeks who are proud to say they F-ing loved Power Rangers! And watched it on the REG.

@Everyone else
I'm excited for the movie. He looks like a good fit for the character. I'd love to see it a little more serious. Tone wise, that is. Comedy and action, with a little bit of drama. ex: guardians of the galaxy

I was too old and jaded to enjoy this when it came out. Something tells me that I would have enjoyed this show, as a kid.

Damn right, Jason will always be the best leader; he'll always have dibs because he was there from the beginning. Tommy was a nice addition to stir the pot & added that common "evil twin" plot device that was slowly fading by the time MMPR hit the airwaves. (and by "evil twin" I mean as the unexpected other Power Ranger)

His character was good for story-tooling: first being evil, then becoming good & eventually losing his powers, then having everyone on pins & needles not knowing if he was in fact the new white ranger, etc. Tommy got upgraded more times before the team went to Zeo than anyone else. The character of Jason never got the many twists & turns in story lines as Tommy did, so I can see why everyone was/is so drawn to him.

That's not to say Jason David Frank isn't a great martial artist (he's terrific), but Tommy/JDF was always a little too flashy while I really dug Jason/Austin St. John's cool, low-keyed approach. Always reminded me of Clark Kent transforming into Superman.
