POWER RANGERS: New Details About Netflix's Planned Movie And TV Show Reboot Have Been Revealed

Some exciting new details about Netflix's Power Rangers reboot have been revealed, including what the streaming service has planned for its movie and TV revolving around the iconic team. Check it out!

There's a huge amount of anticipation surrounding Netflix's upcoming Power Rangers reboot, particularly as the streaming service appears to have major plans for the franchise.

We know a movie and TV series are currently in the works, and with End of the F***ing World creator and director Jonathan Entwistle spearheading this new Power Rangers Cinematic Universe alongside Jenny Klein (The Witcher, Jessica Jones), it feels like these characters are in safe hands. Hopefully, that means we'll avoid a repeat of that underwhelming 2017 reboot.

Now, some new details about what to expect have leaked online (via SFFGazette.com), and we're sure these will only serve to get you more excited for the future of Power Rangers

As you can see below, the same team will appear in the movie and TV show, while these Rangers will be new characters and not the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team. Tonally, it sounds like Netflix will put the cheese to one side in an effort to find a more serious approach to this property, with a serialised form of storytelling similar to the majority of streaming shows.

The Zords look set to be used sparingly, while Japan is likely to heavily feature as well. It also sounds like we're getting new takes on Zordon and Alpha again, so fingers crossed fans embraced this take more than what we saw in theaters five years ago.

2023 will, of course, mark the 30th anniversary of the Power Rangers franchise. Earlier this year, it was reported that Hasbro wants the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers cast to return to celebrate that, though we don't anticipate their returns necessarily being linked to what Netflix has planned as there are, of course, other Tv shows with these characters.

How is it a reboot if it's not the same characters?

@theprophet - ...it ignoring the previous Canon.

I think what you're referring to is, what's the point of a reboot if it's a new team.

Ehh... Hopefully, it's not too much like the 2017 film. There's a reason that didn't do so well. Nor did the first two, but at least those kept the essence of Power Rangers intact.

I dunno, the Rangers kinda don't interest me anymore after discovering the glory that is the Kamen Rider franchise

Cautiously optimistic. The 2017 film was fine

@GhostDog - The 2017 movie was good as far as the story and the actors were really good!

But the art direction was really bad. Like, really bad.

@CorndogBurglar - agreed. It was so bland and lifeless

So they're doing this instead of another mmpr movie? Hmm..

With all these 90s shows coming back, someone needs to do an adult Animorphs. I definitely can see huge potential with that.

.........I'm confused.

So...how can it be the same team, but it's not the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? The team from the movie IS a reboot of the MMPR.

I am down for a more serious tone Power Rangers though. The comics already do a hell of damn job representing them that way in a more serious tone.

@HWestRE420 - It isn't the same team. It's a brand new team of characters. People are too hung up ON MMPR. They are just one team in the overall Power Rangers franchise.

Power Rangers is a connected franchise like the MCU. Characters from previous seasons cross over all the time. Old events are mentioned and have impacts on future seasons.

So you can't just reboot one team. They are rebooting the entire universe, and they decided to keep Zordon and Alpha, but start off with a brand new team we've never seen before.

@CorndogBurglar - I know its a big franchise, I get that. I just don't understand why he started off with that in the tweet.

Just say MMPR won't be the focus it'll be new rangers but Zordon and Alpha will appear. There. Just confused what he was trying to say.

My guess is probably the MMPRs probably are "dead" and these new characters are slipping right into the MMPR suits. But who knows.

@HWestRE420 - We know. It isn't the MMPR team. Not the characters, and not the team. It's a brand new team created for this show that we've never seen. Meaning it won't be MMPR.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant ninja Turtles Anime.

The limited series wasn't bad,I quite enjoyed it.

…Why not take the easy route and do an animated adaptation of Boom!’s comics?

After a million reboots and remakes it doesn't matter what they do at this point...

I wish we got a sequel to the previous movie. That was the first time power rangers did not seem corny and cheesy.

Jesus, just make it fun! It's the power rangers! they are colorful superheroes with robots that fuse together while heavy metal plays on the background! it can be legit good without needing to be serious!

@Razorface1 - The irony being that when Netflix is trying to be serious it often comes across as cheesy
