PREY Director Dan Trachtenberg Says His PREDATOR Movie Took Some Influence From GOD OF WAR

We still don't know very much about Dan Trachtenberg's upcoming Predator movie, Prey, but the director has now revealed that the film will be partially influenced by the God of War video game.

We found out during last year's Disney+ Day that the Predator movie we've been calling "Skulls" since it was first announced back in 2020 will actually be titled Prey, and is set to release on the Hulu streaming service this summer. Now, director Dan Trachtenberg has shared a very interesting update.

The 10 Cloverfield Lane filmmaker took to Twitter to praise writer Cory Barlog's work on the recent God of War PC port, adding that the acclaimed video game had some influence on Prey. Trachtenberg didn't elaborate, but it's possible that Kratos' dynamic with his son Atreus could mirror that of Comanche warrior Naru (Legion actress Amber Midthunder) and her father or some other mentor figure.

There's speculation that this mysterious individual could even be a Predator, but that's just one of many theories doing the rounds.

Prey will take place "in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, following Naru, a skilled female warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator."

Shane Black's underwhelming 2018 effort, The Predator, seemed to put the sci-fi action film series to rest for a while, but it looks like Disney/20th Century Studios is determined to breath new life into the franchise. The script was written by Patrick Aison, whose producer/writer credits include Kingdom, Jack Ryan and Treadstone.

The first - and by far the best - Predator movie came out back in 1987 and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a group of mercenaries who find themselves hunted by a merciless alien creature.

Love predator, aware of the franchise's hits-and-misses, but still looking forward to this.

@McMurdo - you wouldn't have made it in the 80s. We had some of the cheesiest content, and it was [frick]ing great!

"How do we suspend disbelief on THIS one lol"

Maaaaaan.... everything you watched in the 80s was an exercise for suspension of disbelief, especially action films. I guess that's a testament to the quality of content these days, yall get to be picky.

@McMurdo -yeah, I mean it's a super powered alien hunter who has fought some ludicrous foes so this one isn't too far of a stretch imo. Also, I've always liked to picture the yautja hunting humans throughout the time periods

I’m really anticipating this movie. I’m a sucka for a Predator movie.

So excited for this. Hoping it’s as violent as possible too. I heard they may cut it to PG-13 but we will see.

Give it a hard R and let's get back to the roots. This could be good

@Dredd97 - they tried that with Requiem. Turns out you need a good script too.

The original Predator is still my all time favorite action movie, but I have really disliked everything that has come since then. Despite the endless disappointment (especially the last one with the stupid kid), I am still excited for this. It's like I have Predator battered wife syndrome.

Wonder if they will ever give Arnold a big role

Fans would love it

They keep offering him cameos in stuff but he turns them down because he wants a larger role

Laurence Fisherbern’s character was originally planned to be Danny Glover from Predator 2 with Dutch appearing at the very end but really should have given that role to Arnold, probably would have been big enough for him to say yes

@dracula - If that role would’ve went to Arnold then they definitely would’ve had to change how he was. Remember, he was already crazy and he double crossed them.
I think Dutch would’ve been badass with that Predator armor Fishburne had.

This sounds like such a cool concept for a predator movie. Glad they are doing something new.
That said, I really liked the last predator movie. I went in with no exceptions but movie turned out to be kinda cool and really funny. Not crying that it won't get a sequel though.

@ChrisRed - Predator movie. "Really funny"

Those don't go together.

Would be cool to see more period piece movies

Maybe one set during a war and instead of just attacking one group of people the predator goes after soldiers in the middle of a conflict and the two sides have to work together to survive

It feels like they keep trying to overcomplicate these films however they can manage. It shouldn’t be that difficult of a concept.

This has got a good director and a fun premise. I’m cautiously interested. It’s not like the franchise is real high brow anyways. Even the original is pretty schlocky fun.
