Prey has received overwhelmingly positive reactions on social media since premiering at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend, and while it's heading to Hulu instead of theatres, we've no doubt that fans will want to see a sequel. Disney is now in charge of the Predator franchise after acquiring 20th Century Fox, and this movie definitely feels like the perfect fresh start.

While Prey works as a standalone story, we did have to ask director Dan Trachtenberg whether he's got sequel plans during a conversation earlier this week.

In the video below, the filmmaker explains that even though the movie doesn't have a post-credits scene [MINOR SPOILER ALERT], fans should still keep a close eye on the end credits. Why? Well, he reveals that the credits set the stage for a potential sequel set during this same time period.

"I think there’s definitely something…because so many movies are seen as franchise starters, there’s something inherently refreshing about a movie that feels complete," Trachtenberg says. "I hope this movie does feel complete."

"That said, we do something very unique in that, whereas other movies may have a post-credits scene, we have some storytelling inside our end credits themselves. It leaves room for lots of different kinds of sequels to be made. I don’t know if we’re ready yet to say exactly what we want to do next, but I think there are lots of cool opportunities."

Producer Jhane Myers also chimed in to say, "I would love to return to this world. I’d like to return to any world where there’s Native inclusion and representation because that is my world. I’d love to return to any Native world."

Something tells us there are early plans for a Prey 2, though those all-important streaming numbers on Hulu will likely dictate whether that happens. However, with so much early buzz surrounding the reboot and fans eager to see more Predator on screen, we'd be shocked if this movie doesn't mark the beginning of an exciting future for the iconic aliens.

Prey is set to be released on Hulu on August 5.

Whoah, whoah, whoah....now I'm not one of these fragile man babies that think any sequel with a female lead can't possibly top the original ...

But

'#Prey is the best #Predator movie'

I feel like the 1st film is almost perfect

@ClungesForever - yeah I'm pressing x to doubt on that. Might be best sequel, but the main reason why the sequels never managed to top the first one is because it was such a perfect execution of the premise that anything else just feels like a cheap imitation of the original.

@Origame - 100%, I could be wrong but I really can't see any predator movie topping the original.

Same goes for Alien / aliens, jaws 1 & 2, T1 & T2JD. I just can't see any sequels topping them.

@ClungesForever - By that logic, you gave to include Predator 2 along with the first. =c)

Aliens and T2 were both better than the original.

I think there could easily be a Predator movie that is better than the original. Just a pretty bad track record so far (but not entirely bad).

@Rosraf - I was rating them based on the quality of those movies not the fact they're sequels. I doubt a director can even cause the same impact the first installments in those franchises caused and those 3 movies had better follow up movies. Predator didn't imo. As my reply to origame mentioned...I could be wrong I just feel the first predator movie was almost perfect

Any native world? Kinda wanna see a Predator go up against Mayans now. Or Samurai. Or non-natives, like cowboys and pirates

It'll be old photos documenting Yautja throughout history, watch.

SPOILER ALERT: The Comanches are wiped out by the Colonists and shoved into reservations....even with their supergirl Comanche warrior....who wouldn't exist.

The Predator shows up to play slots.

While I think the premise is cool for a new predator film, I also don't want it limited to this time period. Now that it's opened to different points in history, I think it'd make more sense to explore that. Maybe one set in ancient Egypt for example.

Also, maybe look at how the original film worked and adjust the idea for a more modern style. What did predator do? Take a tough action character and pair him against a significantly more powerful hunter to see what happens. Who's a tough action character we have in modern films? John wick. So cast Keanu reeves as basically John wick for a predator movie and have it be predator vs wick.

@Origame - You had me until John Wick. I do hope that they dont make a direct sequel to this one no matter how good it is. Predator stories could work so well as one offs about the predators throughout different time periods.
Origame
Origame - 7/25/2022, 7:14 PM
@Shivermetimbers - it wouldn't literally be John wick, FYI. I'm not proposing a crossover or anything. Like how Arnold didn't play John matrix or the terminator. But a similar sort of character who's just as capable as wick.

@Origame - Oh, I misunderstood. Yeah, that would be really cool.

So it’s basically going to be like the cave paintings in Kong: Skull Island.

Looking forward to this though. Going back to the grounded take that made the first so amazing. That said, I do wish we’d get a ‘legacy’ sequel to Predators. Which I’ve found to be the second best out of the four released so far

I always thought a Terminator movie where the terminator is sent back to the Wild West to kill Sara Conners ancestry would have been fun but the last Terminator movie ruined it.

@AnthonyVonGeek - I think Terminator has more non-canon stories than canon. Just have someone go back in the first 5 minute ms and undo everything to reset the board.

Can’t wait for this movie, I rewatched Predators recently and had a good time, though I forgot how little the predators were in it and how slow it was. I find it ridiculous people are complaining about a female Comanche warrior because 1. It’ll probably be addressed in the movie and 2. Is it really that big of a deal?

It’s a movie about an alien coming to earth to hunt. It’s not that deep.

I think the Predator IP mixed with The Terror would be the way to go. Suspense anthology going through different time periods and settings. But what do I know?

So if they are setting up a sequel then does that mean the super Comanche warrior girl will beat the Predator?

Of course she will, even though Comanche women were not allowed to fight.

And bows and arrows beat lasers all the time.

Imagine being upset because a woman is fighting a predator. This is a fictional story. Whatever they want to happen can happen. Such a silly thing to get upset about before you even watch the film.
