READY PLAYER ONE: Parzival Channels His Best Clark Kent In Another New Extended TV Spot

While it's not exactly the Superman cameo many are hoping for, it looks like Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One will indeed reference the Man of Steel (as well as his theme music). Come check it out!

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One will open day-and-date in China with its North American release on March 30, which is definitely good news as Spielberg launches his first major sci-fi blockbuster since 2005's War of the Worlds.

Warner Bros. has released another new extended TV spot, featuring a ton of new footage. There's nothing particularly spoiler-y to see, but if you've read the book, then you may spot a scene or two that may look more than a little familiar. We're also treated to a few more cameos, including Jim Raynor from Starcraft and even get a Clark Kent reference, which makes us wonder, could Superman also be on the way?

Watch the latest extended TV spot below:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Ready Player One features:
Director: Steven Spielberg
Tye Sheridan as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival
Olivia Cooke as Art3mis
Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento
Simon Pegg as Ogden "Og" Morrow
Mark Rylance as James Donovan Halliday/Anorak
T.J. Miller as i-R0k
Hannah John-Kamen in an undisclosed role
Lena Waithe as Aech

Win Morisaki as Toshiro Yoshiaki/Daito
Philip Zhao as Akihide Karatsu/Shoto
Ralph Ineson as Rick
Letitia Wright as Reb
Mckenna Grace in an undisclosed role

Ready Player One logs into the OASIS on March 29

im 50/50 on this. Pretty freakin different than the book. they have a few visuals kinda correct from the book. but the book was soooo good. I understand some things would need to change, but this isn't the direction I was expecting. But ill see it anyways, most likely walk away as one of those bitter "the book was way better" fan boys.

@WarNoodle - I’m keen to see it because I liked the book. It’ll be interesting to see how much it differentiates from the book. And how/if they deal with the time jumps.

@WarNoodle - doubt it, I mean the the writer co wrote the movie, surely he tried his hardest to get everything. Don't worry it'll rock!

@bobevanz - yeah, I really do hope it rocks.

okay this is what's weird: they're apparently changing a very fundamental way of how the technology even works in the story. People who use the Oasis, they're not out and about running thru the streets of the real world with just VR goggles on. What about the "immersion rig"?? Your actual physical body is supposed to simply stay in one spot the whole time in the real world, while you then can explore anywhere in the Oasis.

they seem to be changing a [frick] TON about the book, I have very low expectations of this turning out any good :-/

@CaptCoulson - well then don't go lol

@bobevanz - I certainly don't WANT that to be the case! lol After hearing about this book in geek circles for a long time, I only find it read it (listened to Wil Wheaton audiobook) within the last 2 years, and I really dug it.
What also especially worries me, after this amount of trailers/previews now, there's still been ZERO indication there will be any of the actual steps of Z's quest in the movie, like as if somehow they're going to bypass that (and maybe base a lot on this big vehicle race not even in the book?). Don't get me wrong, obviously we're not going to watch Z act out full digital recreations of "War Games" and "MP & Holy Grail", hell you even just get little chunks in the book. But just the fact there's been no mention of any of the movies or games he has to beat along the way to get the next riddle to solve and get each key.
(and I'm definitely not expecting the whole "extra life" thing via the Pac Man game quarter to enter into the 3rd act at all)

@bobevanz - well and sorry to toss a "p.s." in here, but there is a VERY practical, common sense reason in the story for why the static immersion rigs exist. You can't be out in the public running around with VR goggles because eventually you're going to run into an impediment that's out there in the real world but not in the Oasis for where you are in a given moment.

@CaptCoulson - Soooo, I take it you already know about the lack of Ultraman making an appearance? I finished the book last month and wanted to be able to compare the two, but it sounds like they may be drastically different. Hopefully, the movie will be able to stand on its own and not have to suffer from the 'Comparison' bug.

@Blackstradamus - yeah, thats what I hope for that it can stand on its own. BUT, the fact that it is called Ready Player One makes it a direct connection to the book and the expectations and comparisons are still going to be there. I really do hope for the best. but for sure a lot of stuff in the trailers have bugged me.
