Rise of the Apes: Where Should the Sequel Go?

Rise of the Apes: Where Should the Sequel Go?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt has stated that it's his hope that the projected new series of Apes films will ultimately dovetail with the original Planet of the Apes. That essentially the future world will be the same one that Charlton Heston's George Taylor arrives on in the 1968 flick.

Additionally, Wyatt has stated that the next film will likely take place about eight years in the future and feature a more urban warfare setting -- Full Metal Jacket with apes is the catch phrase being bandied about.

So the question posed to fans of the film is in what direction do YOU think the next Apes film should go in? Additionally, What are your thoughts about Rise and its sequels leading to the world as seen in the original Planet?

The virus spreads throughout the world. They show disaster. Mean while the apes are multiplying due to them reproducing. Maybe have James Franco die which would leave a great emotional conflict with Caesar. At the end of the film, Only some Humans remain but the Apes live. Show a last shot of The apes in the streets, looking at all the dead bodies from the virus. It is their world now. It is now the planet of the apes.

I honestly see a double story, the rise of the apes over humans. And the throwing of ceasar from leader from that scarred face ape. We should also see 2nd gen apes. And a political system/structure formed or forming. Humans should be dwindling rapidly and more and more apes around the world rise up. Can fill in the gaps and you have a sequel.

-maybe marine like training for the apes learning to fire guns.

-all apes talking & living in homes like the ewoks.

-huge street level battles covering the whole country

-the descion to drop the bomb to wipeout the apes, just like heston says at the end of planet of the apes about us blowing everything up then we see the iconic ending of the statue of liberty.

-the third film could see the missing rocket return to earth.

-The military will blame the apes for the virus outbreak and will start cracking down the apes.
-Franco will protect the apes. Until Franco is killed(this will be the turning point of Caesar's treatment to human.)
-Caesar will avenged Franco's death. This time Caesar will kill all humans.
-Humans will slowly die from the virus.
***And this is the ending scene.***
There will be no humans left. Caesar looks at the sky and will see a space shuttle entering earth.
Once the space shuttle landed the apes be greeted by Mark Wahlberg.

I think it should take place in the future and we see a more seasoned Caesar, he is battle scarred and older. And the scary ape with the bad eye overthrows Caesar. Caesar reclaims his spot as leader and at the same time the virus is killing people, And the military is fighting the apes and quaratining the city. But franco gets killed by either the evil ape or the humans or the virus. It causes Caesar to become ruthless and kill all the humans (ala Star Wars episode 2). I dedintley think it should be in the future where the apes can completely talk and walk upright. And where Caesar is older and battle scarred and battle hardened.

I'm not sure what James Franco's contract calls for, but it would be ideal to have him return as a form of Caesar's conscience. It's obvious that Caesar has a basic morality as evidenced by the anguish he feels over what happens with Tom Felton's character, the kindness he shows the other sanctuary worker, Rodney; and stopping the killing of a policeman. That had to have come from Will Rodman, so it might be interesting to explore their relationship as Caesar continues to ascend.

Nice battle against apes and remaining humans who are immune to the sickness, but who still want to capture apes to preform testing to help save the rest of the dying population. This pisses off the apes and war is declared. We loose....

@Everyone: Caeser's ideals coming under question would be a great way to go (Since he has been shown to have compassion and a relationship with franco.. he's also understanding)..
The Human's are dying.. Apes becoming more advanced..

some of the apes want to take over and finish off the rest of the humans.. probably APE-SCARFACE and some others plan a Julius Caeser like betrayal and murder of Caeser (That would be EPIC)..

the new leader wants prepares for war.. so does the last holds of humanity.. An all out WAR at the end..
..

AFTER CREDITS SCENE..

Franco and Frieda's kid = resistant to virus.. maybe shipped away sumwhere safe?? MARS??? :D

what do you think guys???

@mpk198: Perhaps their son doesn't think he should be shipped off, and that he thinks he can make a cure to the virus. I think that as a reference to the statue of liberty at the end of the original: Apes launch nuclear missiles at major cities.
mpk1988
mpk1988 - 8/15/2011, 12:12 PM
@comiccow6: good point about the cure.. I was hinting at that with the boy..

dont u think the nuke thingy would seem too reminiscent of T-3 (AWFUL movie)... and the terminator movie's in general..

I like the reference to the statue of liberty though.. I put the shipping away to mars thing cos it .. well just seemed so uber cool.. maybe they could leave a few human strongholds and prisoners on earth??

Bahhh.. its nt like theyr goin2go for our Ideas :P

Besides they have also hinted at space travel in the Movie
Remember the Newspaper????

were the hinting at what I suggested??? :P Hope so

Also Nuking the major cities has a lot of consequences.. nuclear winter etc etc.. apes could also die.. besides cities would have the maximum casualties and most desolate due to the virus..

Was very impressed with Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Would like to see a new trilogy.

@ solidsnakeeyes

Like everything you said but Tim Burtons 2001 "Planet of the Apes" has nothing to do with this one. There would also be humans left as this a prequel to the 1968 "Planet of the Apes" Starring Charlton Heston, in which he finds primitive and mute like humans (Perhaps a condition or mutation of the virus which has been past from generation to generation from the "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" film) whom are rounded up like animals and captured along with him.

@ Maia87

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt has stated that it's his hope that the projected new series of Apes films will ultimately dovetail with the original Planet of the Apes. Where's the confusion in you thinking this film isn't linked to the old ones?

The sequel is where the apes war with what's left of the human race and the humans nuke the earth rather than allow anyone but themselves to control it.

Will and Caroline have a child who of course Will experiments on and eventually, their great, great, great, great granddaughter winds up being Nova only instead of being a nubile plaything for Taylor, she's this kick ass highly intelligent leader of a band of humans.

Zira of course also shows up and is descended from Caesar. So at least until Taylor crashes the party it's like a family reunion.

you know from a scientific standpoint...

James Franco's character only tested his original virus on one human subject, his dad. His dad developed anti-bodies that fought it off. So he assumed this was how everyone would react. This is bad, because he needs control and multiple test subjects. Turns out his father might have been one of the few with anti-bodies and the original virus was just as bad. Meaning Franco's character is probably immune to the disease and maybe even the new one.

theperm - 8/15/2011, 2:54 PM
i was also thinking, maybe he should just give his dad AIDS and that would take care of his immune system and he could stay lucid longer.

Here is what I think should happen. It's 10 years later.
The virus has spread causing 4 out comes.
1. It has killed off 90% of the human population.
2. It has caused a "devolution" in humans.
The virus starts to attack the minds of infected humans
causing them to loose their speech and social structure.
3. Fewer humans are immune.
4. Even fewer begin the "Evolve" gaining higher intelligence.

Meanwhile the Apes are still living in seclusion in the Red wood forest.
Caesar has appointed different apes for different roles in their society.
Buck and his Gorillas patrol the forest.
Maurice and Koba have been appointed as Caesars council.
Caesar has had a son with Cornelia named Charles in honor of Charles Rodman (John Lithgow).
Maurice has started a set of laws, the sacred scrolls and is given the title Lawgiver.
Law 1:Ape Shall Never Kill Ape.
Alpha has started almost a cult like group within the Ape society
They believe that man is "the devil's pawn", to be shunned and driven out, if not destroyed outright.
He is refered to as Chief Defender of the Faith
They almost worship Ceaser and his family (they wear clothing).

Dr. Will Rodman is alive working on a cure for man from his virus.
He is now working with what is left of mans military and medical at Naval Weapons Station in Concord.
This military instillation is headed by Admiral Mendez an "Evovled".
The instalation is refered to as "The House of Mendez"

Koba begins to question Caeser openly in hopes of gaining support for his rise as leader.
In his attempt to discredit Ceaser and his stance towards humans.
Koba tricks Alpha into kidnapping Charles.
Koba kills Charles, breaking the first law of Ape :Ape Shall Never Kill Ape.
He blames the murder on Humans. Alpha knows truth but too afraid to tell Caeser.
Apes attack humans, Humans fight back beating Apes.
Apes retreat back into Red Woods.
Humans follow attacking and burning woods almost to the ground.
Will and Caeser meet in a hopes of stopping the war but friendship broken beyond repair.
Caeser now completly untrusting of humans has new laws written

Law 1: Beware the beast Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates,
he kills for sport or lust or greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land.
Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours.
Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death.

Law 2: Human zone now refered to as "THe Forbidden Zone"

I think it has been set up that scar faced ape Koba wasn't it? is going to try and seize power which could lead to having two groups of apes one trying to take over earth whilst the other lots try to live in harmony! I don't think Caesar will die though but i think Will is going to which will lead to Caesar becoming more ruthless as we saw that side of him when his big gorilla friend died!! Anyway Awesome movie the sequel has alot to live up to.
