Ahead of their New York Comic-Con appearance today, Ryan Reynolds and 20th Century Fox released a first look teaser poster for Shawn Levy's upcoming sci-fi action comedy Free Guy, which stars the Deadpool 2 actor as a bank teller who discovers that he's a background character in an open world video game that's on the verge of going offline.

While a trailer is likely still a few months out, Reynolds did release a hilarious new cast reveal announcement featuring him with a few of his castmates, including Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi. The pair proceed to share their appreciation for one another and their excitement to work together "for the very first time ever," which is a claim met with some skepticism from their castmates.

In addition to Reynolds and Waititi, the cast features Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (Mulan).

The film opens July 3, 2020.

FREE GUY tells the story of a lonely bank teller who discovers he is actually a background character in the open-world video game Free City.

So it is a little like Wreck-It Ralph. Interesting.

We're about five years away from Ryan Reynolds using Free Guy as a punchline

Having read the premise. I got the say I dig it. Sounds like a fun comedy. Hopefully they can really play with the idea of being an NPC.

Should’ve been called Non-Playable Character’.

Always down to watch a “Diva Reynolds🤣’ movie tho.

@regularmovieguy - Apparently the original / working title for it was "NPC" which I think they should've stuck with.

Just saw Joker its not as gory and brutal as people are saying needed more. Drags at the beginning might hurt multiple viewings. I get message and there are enough Batman ties to make people happy. Over all I enjoyed the movie 4 Stars out of 5 Stars.. Taxi Driver is a great comparison.

@DoubleD - One viewing only needed for me.

I don’t think Green Lantern was completely awful although it was so much of a disappointment compared to what it could’ve been. However, that video was hilarious.

@RolandD - I think it came out at the wrong time, the fact that it came out between the dark knight and rises, where every movie was going for dark and gritty made this seem super silly. Funny how besides some bad dialogue ad weak villains the overall “fun and colorful” vibe the movie had is basically what most comic book movies are going for now lol

@RolandD - Green lantern wasn't terrible. It was somewhere between mediocre and somewhat entertaining. Catwoman is awful

This isn't possible, but how hilarious would it be if this movie came out and was somehow WORSE than Green Lantern?

A movie about NPCs? That's going to be fun.

The script was pretty bland to me, quickly dives into cliche heavy territory and Ready Player One rip-off, that said the actual premise is interesting enough and the cast is great so I’m sure it’ll still be a fun watch
