According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox have hired Scott Z. Burns to work on the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, with original writers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa also on board. Fox have already locked in Rupert Wyatt and Andy Serkis to return as Caesar, no word yet on whether James Franco will reprise his role.

They also briefly report on how the story will continue, which isn't exactly difficult to predict in fairness..

The new project is taking the story to the next level, with the apes on the path to emerge as society’s new rulers.

I'm sure Burns' work on Contagion will serve him well when dealing with the sequel's human-killing virus plot. There is no official release date yet, but last we heard the studio was aiming for Summer, 2014.
