Season 1 of Silo came to a thrilling conclusion this week. Some of our biggest questions were finally answered but the cliffhanger ending has left us wanting more. Thankfully, Apple TV+ has already confirmed we'll be getting a second season of the hit world-building, sci-fi drama. And it's coming sooner than many of us thought!
Wool series author Hugh Howey wrote on the SIlo Facebook fan page that the second season of the series is set to premiere in 2024. That's quite a refreshingly quick turnaround these days and one that's certainly unexpected given the current state of Hollywood right now.
While the ongoing writer's strike and possible impending actor's strike have already disrupted the production of many series and movies, Howey confirmed that the second season of Silo was already written before the first season was even released. This allowed for the filming of the second season to already begin.
Assuming there are no unexpected delays we can look forward to returning to the dystopian universe of Silo at some point next year. As we're already in July, it's likely that Season 2 will premiere later in 2024, perhaps Fall or Winter.
Based on Hugh Howey’s New York Times bestselling trilogy of novels, Silo is set in a dystopian future where the last ten thousand people on Earth live in a mile-deep home that protects them from the toxic and deadly world outside. No one in the silo knows when or why it was built, nor when they may be allowed to leave as it's believed that the outside world is uninhabitable.
In a ruined and toxic future, thousands live in a giant silo deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.
Silo stars Rebecca Ferguson as Juliette Nichols, an engineer who unexpectedly becomes the new sheriff of the silo. Seeking answers about a loved one's murder, she "tumbles onto a mystery that goes far deeper than she could have ever imagined, leading her to discover that if the lies don't kill you, the truth will."
For the entirety of the first season, we've followed Juliette on a heart-pounding journey to uncover the truth about the silo. In the finale, we finally got some answers, although there's still plenty we need answers to.
The first season of Silo is based on the first half of Howey's Wool novel, which means Season 2 will likely follow the second half of the book. It's possible that the second season will also incorporate elements from Shift, a prequel novel to Wool, and Dust, the third and final arc of the series that concludes the story.
