Spielberg's READY PLAYER ONE 'Art3mis' Shortlist Revealed; Nick Robinson Eyed For 'Parzival'

Steven Spielberg's next directorial venture, Ready Player One, has narrowed down the hunt for its coveted female lead.

The Wrap is reporting that the top three contenders for the lead female role of Art3mis, the OASIS avatar of Samantha Evelyn Cook, are Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), Elle Fanning (We Bought A Zoo), and Lola Kirke (Gone Girl). All three young actresses, along with two other unnamed actresses, will test for the role with Spielberg shortly after he finishes his promotional duties for the Tom Hanks-starrer Bridge Of Spies and his work on Disney's The BFG

Olivia Cooke, best known for her role on the drama Bates Motel, recently received much praise for her role as a young cancer patient in Me And Earl And The Dying Girl and is also a contender for the lead female role in Rian Johnson's Star Wars Episode VIII. Elle Fanning, best known for her roles in the Spielberg-produced Super 8 and We Bought A Zoo with Matt Damon (The Martian), was recently seen in Maleficent with Angelina Jolie (Kung Fu Panda 3) and will next be seen in the Nicolas Winding Refn-directed Neon Demon and Live By Night with Ben Affleck (Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice). Lola Kirke, best known for her role in Gone Girl, recently earned strong reviews for her performance in Mistress America and will next be seen in Doug Liman's Mena with Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation).

Additionally, Justin Kroll of Variety has revealed that Jurassic World star Nick Robinson (The Kings Of Summer) is an early favorite of Spielberg's for the role of Parzival, the OASIS avatar of Wade Owen Watts, the main protagonist in the Ernest Cline novel. Nothing is official yet and there are several other contenders, but considering Spielberg already worked with Robinson when he produced the fourth Jurassic Park installment, Robinson likely has a leg up on the competition at the moment.

What do you guys think? Who do you want to see as Art3mis and Parzival? What about as Aech, Daito, & Shoto? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Nick Robinson was a pain to watch in JW. He was complete garbage. Everytime he was flirting with a girl, being mean to his brother, being nice to his brother: just trash. The females though intrigue me

Nick Robinson had a pretty nice debut role on The Kings of Summer so I'll give hima pass for his acting on Jurassic World, which wasn't THAT horrible.

Nick Robinson was absolutely atrocious in Jurassic World, but some of the blame lies with the way the character was written.

Parzival should be fat. Art3mis is also little round. I hope they keep her other defining trait as well.

Robinson may not have been good in JW but he was great in Kings of Summer. If you haven't seen that movie, it's worth checking out.

Well these make sense as long as these are for their OASIS avatars.
These are not good representations of their real life counterparts AT ALL.
Anyone who read the book will understand that lol

Guys, this is Hollywood.
As soon as they decided to adapt it, no one was gonna have the "gamer body" the do in the book.

...Well, maybe Aech stil will.
I'm actually interested how they'll do it. Whether they'll just have different actors for OASIS and real life, or use motion capture for OASIS - giving it that look of reality, while still obviously a computer.

The casting names are interesting, but... I mean part of the fun of Ready Player One is... well, the fun. Jokes and obscure references to highlander or whatever
For Art3mis, I always had in my head someone more like a Chloe Grace Moretz, or a Maisy Williams. Someone who can pull off the tough gunter, the witty blogger and shy girl all in one.
Not saying none of these names could, just they wouldn't have been my first thought

I still don't understand how they're going to get the rights for everything they need to make this.
Frevoli
Frevoli - 9/2/2015, 9:03 AM
With the rights stuff, there's few ways they can go.

The two extremes being; try to get the rights to everything mentioned and used in the book, or get no rights and make everything generic facsimiles.

I think the best way, would be going in the middle - trying to get the KEY licenses they need to get- D&D, Wargame, Zorc, 2112, Pacman and the other arcade games etc - not focusing so much on the lesser ones.
I mean would it be cool if they got Leoparden? Sure, of course. But let's face it - they can use any generic mech to the same effect.

Ugh, Nick Robinson's acting in Jurassic World was horrible. He's bland, has zero charisma and one facial expression.
