As you can see from the Tweets below (which come to us courtesy of @ERCboxoffice), J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness has opened in North America with an impressive Wednesday evening and Thursday total of $13 million. Of course, it's still early days for the sequel and we'll get a much better idea of how good of a start this is by Sunday. It's thought that it will open between $80 - 100 million. Meanwhile, Iron Man 3 has now grossed $300 million domestically and an official announcement in regards to it passing $1 billion worldwide is expected to be made later today.
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
