Details On Peter Weller's STAR TREK 2 Role Revealed

Benicio Del Toro may have waved buh by to boldly going on to villainous immortality in J.J Abrams' Star Trek sequel but one Sci-fi veteran is still very much on board to cause problems for the crew of the Enterprise. Yes new details on Peter Weller's role reveal that he will indeed be playing a villain.

First here is an excerpt from Variety's report that slipped by us from before the role was cast..

“..another villain, someone who’s older and in more of a supporting character to del Toro.”

Obviously that was before Del Toro bailed. And now thanks to an update from EW after speaking with Weller's agent we know the following..

Of course J.J. Abrams is very tight-lipped about his projects but I do know that it’s a substantial role and that Peter is playing a C.E.O.

So an eeeeevil CEO then. Never! Sound interesting anyway, and suggest there will be some kind of corporate element to the plot. But what could it be? And assuming Khan is the main villain (which is looking very likely) how does he fit into the whole thing? We don't know, but hopefully we will soon. For now let's have your theories.

Greed may have disappeared from the Federation but there still has to be some form of currency. How was everyone paying for their drinks at the bar in the 2009 film?

There has to be some form of incentive to work. If not, I would just lay around all day watching TV and begging my wife for sex :)

maybe he's gonna be a Ferengi trade commission CEO secretly working with Khan to bring down the federation so he can steal away all of their valuable resources...yup...nailed it

Kahn's daddy?

If they do some of Khan's backstory he could be the CEO of the genetic engineering company that creates Khan. Greg Cox's Eugenics Wars books on the subject are pretty awesome (and feature the spin-off worthy Gary Seven).

Or maybe somehow he's reprising his role from Enterprise, where he was head of a mining company (http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/John_Frederick_Paxton). That would be a bit weird though as it's 100 years before Kirk (of course my other idea is even further before Kirk, but would still tie into the story if Khan is indeed the villain).

John Frederick Paxton, leader of the radical Xenophobic group Terra Prime.

We know Archer lived until the new movie (at least in the alternate timeline) why not Paxton?

He would make a great Mr. Freeze but for Star Trek I have no clue what he is playing.

There definately isn't capitalism. Within the Federation, resources are the commodity, not money or intergalactic "credits". Within Starfleet, rank and accomplishment seems to have a lot of meaning.
You should probably know though that with food replicators and the like, materialism has no meaning. Not sure if that technology is around during Kirk's years though.

I always got the impression that the utopian/communistic non-money thing was during TNG time.

I like @jbak368's idea of him being the head of the organization that creates Khan, although they'll probably have to change the time from the 1990s :P

@alexdelarge87- I concur. Weller is clearly showing his age, so he will probably be a significant threat but in a secondary manner.
