New STAR TREK BEYOND Video Reveals Sulu's Secret

Star Trek Beyond is the sequel to 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness. Justin Lin takes over for J.J. Abrams as director. Simon Pegg, Doug Jung, Roberto Orci, John D. Payne and Patrick McCay all collaborated on the script. Pegg and Jung rewrote the script previously written by Orci, Payne and McCay. How much of the original script remains is unknown.

The film will take much of the Enterprise crew off the ship, as it's destroyed by a new race of powerful aliens led by Idris Elba. The crew finds themselves split up on an unknown planet, seeking to reunite and make their way off the planet and join Star Fleet in the ongoing battle.

Chris Pine plays Capt. James T. Kirk. Zachary Quinto plays Spock. John Cho plays Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu. Karl Urban plays 'Bones' Mcoy. Zoe Saldana plays Nyota Uhura and Anton Yelchin is Pavel Chekov. Pegg also returns as Scotty. Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella join the cast as Krall and Jaylah.

Star Trek Beyond will be released on July 22, 2016 to mark the 50th Anniversary of Gene Roddenberry's original science-fiction series.

Makes sense Sulu had a daughter who became helmsmen of the Enterprise-B. Hopefully the enterprise gets a refit and I think saucer separation would be epic.

The reboot was great at establishing the franchise to the general and younger audiences. But IMO Into Darkness was the wrong direction to the sequel... Rehashing the plot from the best ST film (Wrath of Khan) then proceeding to trample on the fond memories of ST fans for Khan ... at the same time confusing general movie goers with the Khan reveal having NO effect on them.

I believe Kumar had a very small cameo in the first one.

I love Star Trek and Star Trek Into DArkness was pretty good despite the ending so you would think I would be hyped for this movie. Well the trailer kinda put me off. I sure it might be good but I'm not really feeling Star Trekkie out of this. Like I said the trailer kinda put me off I guess because of the music. Didn't really feel Star Trek to me. Also I guess there are a lot more interesting movies coming out.

@Scorpo

Not even a little bit.

@tb86

Don't give up just yet! Trailers are designed to draw as many people as possible, so the Beyond trailer was probably designed specifically to not seem Star Trek-y, since that's what scares away the casual crowd. Look at it this way....more often than not, in the original series, the crew was stranded on some random alien planet, away from their ship, and that's exactly what appears to have happened in the trailer. If anything, Beyond could be the more Trek than the previous two.

My God, what is it with Hollywood? Everyone is so "effected"...
They act so detatched from everyone else in the country. Always acting like they are on camera...
Even this host/announcer acting like an effeminate nurd...
It's definately...creepy.

Abrams did a better job with the Star Trek reboot than the star Wars retread.

It isn't shocking that he has a daughter in the film when you think about it. In fact it was revealed in Star Trek 6 he had a daughter who ended up being the Helmsmen on the Enterprise B in the film.

Why do people assume that Sulu is gay? Is it because the actor who played him in the original series was gay? Because Sulu was never gay on the show. It was strongly hinted that Sulu liked women and of course he had a daughter with an unknown woman.

I think they always insinuated that Sulu was gay. Right from the start, he was the ship's florist. He painted watercolors. He ignored the advances of women, and he also hung out with only women. I always thought it was their way of subtly showing he was light in the loafers.
