Paramount Approves 'Star Trek 2' Without Seeing A Script.

Paramount has apparently already given the go-ahead for pre-production on J.J Abrams' sequel 'Star Trek 2' without even seeing the script...

A source close to the production of 'Star Trek 2' has told the folks over at ScreenRant that Paramount are ready to put the money down for the pre-production on the film which is set to start this August, without having seen the script yet.

Paramount have been pitched the entire story for 'Star Trek 2' and the word so far is that they are extremely impressed. You cant really blame them for wanting this movie to be made as soon as possible, the first movie was a huge success grossing more than $385 million worldwide.

I'm excited for this movie, which is saying a lot because growing up I was a huge 'Star Wars' fan and raged war against anyone who was a fan of 'Star Trek', which made for an interesting time with my father being a trekkie, it caused me to walk out of the living room countless times. Needless to say when 'Star Trek' came into theaters, I avoided it, and when it was released on DVD, I avoided it, but I eventually watched it and I was very impressed with what I saw. To this day I still hate the 'Star Trek' TV show, but I'm a huge fan of the movie and I'm excited to see what they can do this time around.

Star Trek 2 is scheduled to open on June 29, 2012.

They're probably just in a hurry to get the movie ready for whenever JJ Abrams decides to sign on to direct.

I like the first one so this is good news and they probably want to tie down JJ plus they need a franchise for 2012 since the avengers is being distributed by disney. And all the other marvel movies

I really hope the second one doesn't go back to the wild west...that's probably the worst thing they could do. Cowboys vs. Aliens is fine. But When people are expecting something original for the second film in this reboot and they hammer out something like that, it's a bit of a cr@p shoot. That was my main problem with the 'Back to the Future' franchise, I hated the Wild west theme and I hope I'm not alone on this.

For the second Star Trek they need to introduce either the Klingons, the borg, Kahn or Dr. Noonien Soong to sort of tie TNG with this franchise...least I think that would be cool. Hope they can find something more original then the old west.

Hey, I'm brand new to the site. I HAVE been watching comments for a while. So I know most of you guys. Really though, if this movie is even a fraction as good as the first movie, it will rock.

The Hunger games is an adaptation of a best selling book series. I have no interest in seeing it, unless the trailer changes my mind.

@SuspenseSmith.....before they make a "new" Power Rangers movie, they need to make a Voltron movie ^_^ I mean, Power Rangers is just a Voltron adaptation for Earth anyways....

Regardless, rock on for a second Star Trek in the reboot series :-) I'm pretty stoked about it!

This is one sequel that was green-lit the moment they announced it was coming out in June 2012 -- it was just a matter of waiting for the script. I just hope the three years between films doesn't kill some of the momentum that the first film had built.

Pray that, w/o seeing a script, this doesn't end up like Alien 3.

"I mean, Power Rangers is just a Voltron adaptation for Earth anyways...."

How can you say Power Rangers is just an adaptation of Voltron when the series it's actually adapted from debuted several years before the anime Voltron was adapted from?
Knightstalker
Knightstalker - 2/27/2011, 7:40 PM
Power Rangers? Really? This is truly the end of western civilization. As for buying ST2 sight unseen, this opens the door for a huge abuse of the franchise.

The first film was pure and utter crap. Star Trek in name-only.

Hopefully the sequel will be better now that they got all of the set-up out of the way, but I'm not expecting much. I mean, it is still Kurtzman and Orci on script duties.

@SuspenseSmith There's been talk about a serious Power Rangers movie (which would be awesome)!!

Star Trek is one of the only Blu-Rays that I can watch over and over and over again without getting bored, so this sequel better be worth that!!!

Good news they're making the movie, but bullsh*t! No studio green lights a movie without seeing a script. They have to see a script to work out the budget and the insurance.I can't see any studio, even before the financial troubles, gambling tens of millions of dollars without seeing what they've bought.Nonsense.

SWEETNESS!!! They approve the film without seeing a script? Either that story treatment is really good, or Paramount is a bunch of complete idiots! Whatever they do with it, it's obviously a gamble.

VERY careless of Paramount. Could end up being a piece of shit and i hope not because shit...I had been a trekkie when all my friends made fun of it back in the day. if the sequel kicks ass like the first then i have a reason to finally laugh at them. This and Superman are the main 2 I'm seriously pulling for the most out of all the CBMs.

@Knightstalker- Agreed, this is very careless of Paramount. They are getting way too cocky with the franchise. They need to keep an eye on it and make sure nothing goes wrong. The whole "sight unseen" stuff is the SAME CRAP WB pulled with bryan singer when he made "Superman Returns" Singer was so certain his film would be awesome that he convinced WB to release the film WITHOUT pre-screening it first.

Had WB pre-screened Superman Returns beforehand it might not have been as bad as it was. Sight-unseen never works out well. It caused WB to fail Superman and it could spell the same end for Paramount with the Star Trek franchise.

[frick] these studios are so damn stupid.
