When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organisation has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS was directed by J.J. Abrams ("Super 8"), from a screenplay written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Returning for the sequel are Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Zoë Saldana, and Anton Yelchin. Joined by new cast members Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller.

Great concepts, I'm glad we got what we did with the final cut. Good blend of retro future tech with modern future tech.

Great movie, just not a great Star Trek movie. If only Kirk stayed dead, and the third movie in the "reboot" series was about them reviving Kirk, I'd like that. It'd be a role reversal of The Search For Spock.

Fantastic movie. Being a complete non-Star Trek fan, it was very easy to enjoy these new movies. I am very much looking forward to the 3rd instalment.

Beautiful work, sleek and practical looking. No one questions the production values of the new Star Trek movies.

The only two things that irked me about STID were the rehash of the heroic sacrifice scene, and the "superblood" escape plan.

In STWOK the death scene was brilliant and had weight to it. It had people by the throat. The rehash seemed so tacked on it was almost impossible to watch. We knew where it was going, and there was no weight to it. No drama. No "catch-all" moment. It was horribly "meh" at best.

And the "superblood"? GAK! For real? THIS was their choice of plot device to undo what they just did? And in the same movie no less? At least Spock was dead til the next outing. He wasn't dead and then magically alive 10 minutes later.

I still wish they had come up with a better plotline than that, and opted to give nods to the original instead of just role reversal for the pivotal scene. Hopefully the next installment will run further and faster than this one. A good flick, sure, but those bits nearly killed it for me.
