Marvel Studios Reveals Ghost Rider's Release Date As A Mystery MCU Movie Is Added To 2029

Marvel Studios' post-Avengers: Secret Wars plans are taking shape, with a new movie added to its 2029 lineup and Ghost Rider now officially dated alongside X-Men and Black Panther 3.

With Spider-Man: Brand New Day in the rearview, Marvel Studios has only two movies left in the Multiverse Saga. Those are Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, the epic two-part finale to an era of storytelling full of ups and downs.

Following this weekend's D23 event in Anaheim, Marvel Studios has updated its release calendar. The untitled X-Men reboot is coming on May 5, 2028, while the untitled Ghost Rider is, as expected, now confirmed for July 28, 2028.

The untitled Black Panther 3 is, as we first learned during San Diego Comic-Con last month, heading to theaters on December 15, 2028.

Beyond that, Marvel Studios has announced a new mystery MCU movie set for release on November 11, 2029. That joins the previously announced May 4, 2029 and July 13, 2029, movies. Surely one of them will be a Spider-Man: Brand New Day follow-up?

Directed by Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), the X-Men movie stars Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Scott Summers, Christopher Abbott (Catch-22) as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and Maya Boyd (& Juliet) as Storm. Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will play Nathaniel Milbury.

Ghost Rider is being helmed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine), with Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) set to play the Spirit of Vengeance.

Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever director Ryan Coogler returns for Black Panther 3, which, in the post-Avengers: Secret Wars MCU, will be led by Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk star David Jonsson as the adult T'Challa II. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke also star.

"I am going to let Ryan reveal what he wants to reveal, when he wants to reveal it," Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said at Comic-Con, "and what he wanted to reveal today is that he’s playing Ghost Rider. He is a huge fan of the comics; he did come to us with a specific vision, based on some particular comics."

"It was Gosling who had the vision. It was Gosling who had the pitch that won over Shawn, that had them come and pitch us this idea, which led to us on stage," he added.

Stay tuned for updates on all these MCU movies as we have them.

I'd be willing to bet:

Spider-Man 5
Fantastic Four 2
Deadpool 4

If not the sequels, perhaps the first movies for some of the rebooted heroes from Secret Wars?

@JabbaTheSus - I'm thinking Spider-man 5 for sure, and either Deadpool 4 or maybe a Wolverine solo film. Possibly both. Fantastic Four sequel is also likely.

@JabbaTheSus - If First Steps made money then so did The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.

@JabbaTheSus - I don't think we'll be getting rebooted heroes. I expect Hemsworth to still be Thor, Cumberbatch to still be Strange, Holland to still be Spider-Man, etc. The difference is that, after Secret Wars, the universe will likely be fundamentally different from the one we've been following. Characters and concepts that previously didn't exist in the MCU, particularly the X-Men and other mutants, can now simply exist as part of the same reality.

And that's actually what Secret Wars gives Marvel an opportunity to do. They can effectively clean up the continuity, reshape the universe and establish a new status quo without throwing away everything audiences have spent 15+ years investing in.

I think the more likely interpretation is same MCU, fundamentally different status quo rather than new MCU with rebooted characters. Secret Wars can be the line where the universe changes without Marvel having to start from scratch.

@JabbaTheSus - that's a really good guess, I'd expect 2 of those 3 at least.

Spider-Man 5
Fantastic Four 2
Deadpool 4
Shang-Chi 2
Dr Strange 3
Thor 5
Nova (as it's now confirmed to be a movie)
Thunderbolts 2

Take your pic!

Curious to see how the sequels deal with the events of Secret Wars. Will characters remember anything or will it be wiped like in No Way Home.

Makes sense that Black Panther 3 would follow X-Men.

I'm guessing we'll get Spider-Man 5 in May or July, a sequel to another franchise in either month, and the first movie in a new franchise in November. It's great to see the MCU finally getting back on track...unlike another comic book company I won't name.

Doctor strange 3
Thor 5
Other guesses include FF2, Nova, and DP 4.
