William Shatner Not In STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS

Fans of the original Captain Kirk may be a bit disappointed if they were hoping for a cameo from William Shatner in Star Trek Into Darkness. Continue on to read Shatner's brief comment about the possibility.

With Leonard Nimoy appearing in Star Trek (2009) and confirmed as not appearing in Star Trek Into Darkness (STID), there's been some crazy theories proposed that the original Captain James T. Kirk may appear in STID as a way to keep the connection alive to the original cast and timeline.

Wishful thinking surely, but with time travel in play and a futuristic-cosmic space travel setting, one can never know where a 'black hole' may lead so to speak. Recently, William Shatner discussed this possibility at his one-man show “Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It,” and set the record straight, stating, “I don’t think that ['Darkness' director] J.J. Abrams knows what to do with me. Age and change in body shape."

The only thing I'd read into Shatner's statement is that he and J.J. Abrams have met and had discussions, probably not serious discussions but discussions nonetheless. Remember, Shatner very nearly appeared in the 2009 move but Abrams couldn't work in a bigger part for his character and Shatner wanted more than a trivial cameo. Do you want Abrams to try and keep a connection to the original Star Trek timeline in 'Darkness? And would you want that connection to be in the form of a cameo by the original Cpt. Kirk?

The only way Shatner is going to be involved in this movie in any way, is when he buys a ticket.

Bill, your character died in Generations. Dead. Muerto. You were there. Old Kirk dies. That's a pretty hard bell to unring.

I say the only way to get William Shatner on board for Star Treck Into Darkness is to give him a decent screen time. Not a 10 or 15 sec cameo.

I've never met Shatner, but from what I've heard from people who know him and from what I've seen in interviews, I bet he's a prick.

There's no need for Shatner to appear in a Star Trek movie anymore. Spock/Nimoy was the only link needed to tie the Reboot to the original series, and he ain't gonna appear in another one. They should just focus on the 'young' cast and not f**king the franchise up like Rick Berman did.

jimpinto24 - you got it right, probably a role like they gave Nimoy.
santoanderson - this is a different timeline before the original series, he doesn't have to be Kirk.

I will always be a bigger fan of Shatner's Kirk. He was a real and stern leader in TOS especially in the Trelane episode.

Bit i gotta admit, tying this new franchise too much with the original might be a mistake. Even bringing in Nimoy in the last one...idk

A Kirk cameo would be cool. I think a cameo from the entire remaining cast would be cool.

You don't have to make him "future Kirk". Just make him the sage groundskeeper or something. Just a nod and a wink to the fans. Or he could offer the crew of the Enterprise cheaper accomodations at their next port of call:)

I'm surprised at the amount of butthurt vitriol directed at the man. After all, he was the first Captain. Doesn't mean that you have to fawn over him but you should respect his contribution to starting this epic ride that we all enjoy so much.

People shouldn't be bashing Shatner.

That said, I wouldn't be completely upset if he was in the film. But I do think this film needs to focus on the younger crew. The last film was really about Spock Prime handing the mantle over to the younger Spock.

I would hate for the sequel to follow the same trend only with the Kirks this time. I prefer this film just focus on the younger crew and their adventures.

But to people calling Shat a "prick" come on- GROW THE [frick] UP. The guy wasn't even saying anything mean. He was being honest about himself which...to be honest he isn't even all that out of shape. A little training can get him fit again and who knows- maybe the 3rd Trek will be his time to return.

To the people unfairly bashing The Shat. Watch the original series.

I personally think he should be in the last Star Trek movie to feature this cast, to bookend the series as it were.

And yeah, the original Kirk is dead, but there is no reason he couldn't play a future version of the alternate Kirk.

I'm a longtime TOS fan and an old-Kirk fan but I don't want to see Shatner in one of these new Trek movies. NuTrek needs to firmly establish ITSELF and that's not going to happen if the movies constantly reference the old in anyway more than subtle ways. And while I basically like him and have for years, there's NOTHING subtle about Mr. William Shatner.

i agree, he suffered from character accosiation and couldnt find work, which is why he tries so hard to get away from star trek, but im pretty sure in these final years he's excepted kirk again.

YESYESYES to OG Kirk! Rinse away the bad taste from Generations and give Shatner's Kirk the send off he deserves - this movie doesn't exist without him!

"Bill, your character died in Generations. Dead. Muerto. You were there. Old Kirk dies. That's a pretty hard bell to unring."

You've seen Wrath of Khan? Death of Spock (spoiler), yes? Yet somehow Nimoy has played Spock for another 25 years or so..

Shatner is a cool sum-bytch.

He should show up in a new Trek film as some big shot Admiral or something..not as Kirk, another character altogether.

Easy fix, cool way to show respect to the original Captain.

good! i love shatner but what does he have to do with the new series? just like nimoy in the last film...should not have been there! the film and new people playing the parts should have stood on there own. thats why we know have die hard trek fans saying the last film doesn't count cause it's an alternate time line. should have done what bond did f*ck the past!!!

Let him be, we got closure in Star Trek: Generations. They had an Original Series cameo in the last movie to give it credibility, though it would've stood fine on it's own. Let's pop off the training wheels for this one, and see how it goes.
