William Shatner & Roberto Orci Respond To STAR TREK 3 Rumored Cameo

Two days ago, Badass Digest claimed that a role has been written for William Shatner in the upcoming Star Trek film. Come see what Shatner and the film's director had to say about it.

Last time Leonard Nimoy ("Mission: Impossible") and William Shatner ("The Twilight Zone") appeared together as Spock and Captain Kirk was in 1991's Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. A rumor has surfaced from Devin Faraci of Badass Digest  claiming a pivotal role has been written for Shatner and it will involve him sharing the screen with Nimoy once again. This would be the first time Shatner's Kirk would appear in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek universe, but for Nimoy this would be his third time as he has already appeared in 2009's Star Trek and 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness.

Director of Star Trek 3, Roberto Orci, responded to the rumor by leaving a couple messages on TrekMovie.com. In his first message, he states, "Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way." And then he followed it up with:

"Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."

William Shatner tweeted a response to the rumor as well, which you can view below.

BA Digest and BleedingCool are goddamn pathetic as of late. I can't believe any of the editors give their recent bull the time of day anymore.

Lol of course they'll deny, just like Abrams and Cumberbatch.

Badass Digest is legit; they're not perfect, but they don't make shit up either.

I don't care if Shatner will be in Star Trek 3.

Bring back Leonard Nimoy.

So wasn't the point of this reboot to start over with new actors? Why do we need future Spock in every movie, and now future Kirk? I think we need to get away from this and make these movies their own thing, they've already played around with time travel with two movies now.

Watching the original series again showed me that Shat, Nimoy and Kelly had way, way more chemistry than Pine and his Spock and McKoy.

All them individually are pretty good, but I just don't see them as good bouncing off one another.

Hmmmmm I wouldn't be surprised if we saw other past counterparts of the originals(minus the deceased).

Though the nexus is the logical choice and reason for Kirk to appear. We Shall see.....

"From the people who said that Cumberbatch wasn't Khan"

LMAO, exactly. If this were any other rumor by any other site besides Badass, EVERYONE would be pointing out this exact same thing, saying how the creative minds behind these Trek movies haven't exactly had the best track record when it comes to...what did infamous 9/11 crackpot "truther" Roberto Orci say..."maintaining my integrity as a truth teller"? That's rich, coming from him.

As Reasonnnn said, Badass has a proven history of legitimate scoops. If users (and some power users) could get their anti-Devin Faraci agendas out of the way, it'd be pretty clear which side is most likely to be right and wrong in this particular circumstance.

I hope he is not in it. Time to let go of the past, stop retelling old stories, and look to the future.

Hope they are just denying it. Really would love for Shatner to have a cameo.

I'm still laughing at the time Orci allowed us to see all of his insecurities when he started yelling at fans about how he was better than them.

The natural progression of Trek would be a series set decades after Next Gen., boldly going where Star Trek has not gone before.

More time has passed since Next Gen ended than the time between the Original Series and Next Gen.

I would rather see a cameo from Walter Koenig, than from Shatner. Have not seen Shatner playing anything else than Shatner at all. Koenig, on the other hand, is simply leagues apart in acting skills and has a hand for playing out complex and interesting characters believably.

Orci's statement is stupid. Everything is not a rumour if it is preceded by "official press release from Paramount"

As I recall, Shatner was pretty pissed that nobody called him for a cameo for the first of Abrams Trek films. So I wouldn't be surprised if he tells them to F*** off if they did ask.

Still pissed we didn't get a captain sulu mini series, a captain riker mini series or stuff like that.
They had all the sets and all the wardrobe and the cast in great shape. Huge misses opportunity.

"As I recall, Shatner was pretty pissed that nobody called him for a cameo for the first of Abrams Trek films."

@duey2000 There actually were plans for a cameo with him in the first Trek film, but they dropped it at the last second. I'd assume they at least told him about it before they wrote it out of the script during revisions.

LETS GOOOOO! He should cameo even if it's not as future Kirk. A Stan Lee type cameo would be acceptable. More Shat is always a good thing.

@JediPhilosopher

I didn't dislike the idea. The laziness (if you want to call it that, though I wouldn't consider this laziness) of the writers that made the Nexus unexplained was fully acceptable by me because at that time, very few people knew about it. In this case, apparently only Soran and Guinan knew about it. And with good reasons, too.

1. Guinan was hesitant to talk about it and even more so to go there to keep as much distance as possible to the heavenly-yet-fake temptation.

2. People (of any race) who did go there, we can only assume, never got out. Kirk included among them.

So, when nobody knows about something, how could it be explained? In my opinion, if they go the Nexus way about it, although they still need to explain how to bring Kirk back to life, I don't think they need to explain the Nexus at all. Just consider it the mystery of the universe. Because on this timeline (the reboot timeline) it's back to square one where (or perhaps I should say "when") nobody knows about the Nexus, although in the Prime Timeline, we can assume the Federation knows about it and probably do some research on it based on Picard and the crew of the Enterprise's report.
