Last time
Leonard Nimoy ("Mission: Impossible") and
William Shatner ("The Twilight Zone") appeared together as Spock and Captain Kirk was in 1991's
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. A
rumor has surfaced from
Devin Faraci of Badass Digest claiming a pivotal role has been written for Shatner and it will involve him sharing the screen with Nimoy once again. This would be the first time Shatner's Kirk would appear in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek universe, but for Nimoy this would be his third time as he has already appeared in 2009's
Star Trek and 2013's
Star Trek Into Darkness.
Director of
Star Trek 3, Roberto Orci, responded to the rumor by leaving a couple messages on TrekMovie.com. In his first message, he states, "
Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way." And then he followed it up with:
"Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor."
William Shatner tweeted a response to the rumor as well, which you can view below.
