Colin Trevorrow Addresses Petition For George Lucas To Helm STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Believe it or not, there really is a group of fans who would like to see George Lucas ruin take over Star Wars Episode IX! That has to hurt if you're Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), but his thoughts on the matter might just surprise you. Hit the jump for details!
Regardless of how you felt about Jurassic World (and the box office numbers point to the majority loving it), it's hard not to feel sorry for Colin Trevorrow when you hear that some fans are petitioning to have him replaced as the director of Star Wars Episode IX with...George Lucas. However, despite a Change.org petition stating that he's simply "not the right guy" to tackle the last instalment of the trilogy, it doesn't sound as if the filmmaker is letting the negativity get him down.
"It's funny, I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we're going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy," Trevorrow told Entertainment Tonight this past weekend. "When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie's about -- if you've never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here's a character. His father's part robot, but he can also do magic. And there's a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He's got a dog for a friend!' -- it sounds insane. But it's the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it."
I didn't love Jurassic World, but after reading those comments, it's hard not to have faith in Trevorrow's vision. Throw in the fact that the prospect of another Star Wars movie from George Lucas is about as enticing seeing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 become a reality instead of Marvel's Spider-Man, and it's fair to say the franchise is in the right hands at the moment. Thoughts?
