Colin Trevorrow Addresses Petition For George Lucas To Helm STAR WARS EPISODE IX

Believe it or not, there really is a group of fans who would like to see George Lucas ruin take over Star Wars Episode IX! That has to hurt if you're Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World), but his thoughts on the matter might just surprise you. Hit the jump for details!

Regardless of how you felt about Jurassic World (and the box office numbers point to the majority loving it), it's hard not to feel sorry for Colin Trevorrow when you hear that some fans are petitioning to have him replaced as the director of Star Wars Episode IX with...George Lucas. However, despite a Change.org petition stating that he's simply "not the right guy" to tackle the last instalment of the trilogy, it doesn't sound as if the filmmaker is letting the negativity get him down.

"It's funny, I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at LucasFilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we're going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy," Trevorrow told Entertainment Tonight this past weekend. "When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy. When you try to pitch what that movie's about -- if you've never heard of Star Wars before, you say, ‘Here's a character. His father's part robot, but he can also do magic. And there's a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He's got a dog for a friend!' -- it sounds insane. But it's the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it."

I didn't love Jurassic World, but after reading those comments, it's hard not to have faith in Trevorrow's vision. Throw in the fact that the prospect of another Star Wars movie from George Lucas is about as enticing seeing The Amazing Spider-Man 3 become a reality instead of Marvel's Spider-Man, and it's fair to say the franchise is in the right hands at the moment. Thoughts?

Trevorrow is gonna suck so bad. Jurrasic World is barely a film, I'd say he's the worst directing choice Disney has made yet for the franchise.

I definitely don't want Lucas near the new trilogy but I really wish they chose someone other than Trevorrow to direct it, just don't find him very talented and this just feels like a reactionary choice because Jurassic World had a huge box office haul.

This makes me more confident in Trevorrow.

I hope Colin doesn't play too safe like JJ did. Take it to the next level Colin!

Seems those mongoloids forgot about the prequel trilogy. Star Wars will be just fine without Lucas in the directors chair.

Did Irvin Kershner or Richard Marquand do anything exciting before or after Star Wars? No. I think Trevorrow will be fine.

If they get George Lucas, then they absolutely HAVE to bring back the Techno Union!

These petitions are so annoying. The net gives people the idea that they have the power to force people to do things with intimidation and sheer numbers. It's like a group of bitches trying to mug someone.

@Nomis
Exactly!!! I think the only thing creative about that movie was Kylo Rens sword but I have not read anything in the expanded universe so I don't know if they used designs from there. I also thought the movie was very predictable I actually nearly predicted the whole movie I got most of the major plot points correct

Hopefully Trevorrow adds some stuff to it and goes all out instead of going backwards like JJ did

Something about his face makes me feel depressed. Lol.

Besides that, not a fan of him doing episode 9. Johnson should've done 8 and 9

George Lucas is already releasing special editions for THE FORCE AWAKENS.

Anyone else notice, every goddamn director of star wars is an either short or pudgy guy in glasses who's physically meager

All very similar lol

LOL if anyone of you are judging him just by Jurassic World, you should probably open up to seeing his other films like Safety Not Guaranteed. It's a great and ORIGINAL, and proves that Colin is a great director.

This combined with his comments a the premier is making me like this guy even more. I think he may "get it" more than JJ at this point.

I would be fine with George Lucas directing it just don't let him write it.

Keep Lucas away from this. The guy has gone mental. Now I do think they should be using some of the ideas from the EU. It could make these movies better than TFA.

Jurassic World wasn't the most impressive film, but anyone acting like it was some terrible abomination is over-exaggerating. I'd say the main problems with JW were in it's characters and screenplay. TFA has already established that this is a strong cast of characters, and Rian Johnson is writing the screenplay for Episode IX. Considering that JJ, Rian, and Colin among other talented filmakers will all be collaborating together on this entire trilogy, I'd wager that Tervorrow will do just fine at the helm of Episode IX.
