January will see the release of Star Wars #1 from Jason Aaron and John Cassaday, with Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca's Darth Vader #1 hitting in February and Mark Waid and Terry Dodson's Princess Leia #1 set for March. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a first look at Alex Ross' variant cover for Star Wars #1, and as you can see from the images below, it pays homage to a very familiar image. We don't have a bigger version at the moment unfortunately, but you can see enough to tell that it will be a must-buy! What do you guys think?

I recall some interview of Alex Ross, in a Wizard magazine, like a gazillion years ago, and he stated that he would never illustrate something like "star wars" or vampirella, or (by that time) Kyle Rayner or long haired Aquaman.

I guess he needed a few bucks.

Yup, I read that too, way back when. But I think Ross's issue was with the extended universe comics of the time, rather than "the real Star Wars." Alex Ross has never been shy about expressing his disgust for anything and everything that was created after he was a kid.

Never been a fan of Alex Ross. I know the artwork looks real, but it always feels disjointed or out of place from the original source. Like yeah I know his super hero art looks like it could be thrown into the silver age of comics, but I would feel more connected to it if it looked recent and not dated.

Maybe I just don't get the hype surrounding him, but I would rather see something that didn't look like it was set in the 1930s.
