George Lucas Originally Wanted To Make STAR WARS VII & Then Sell It

In a new USA Today article, George Lucas (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) reveals that he wanted to make Star Wars: Episode VII and then sell the property, but changed his mind.

After Disney paid out $4 BILLION dollars to George Lucas for the rights to Star Wars most people thought the would head off into the sunset and never been heard from again. Personally, I thought Lucas would put it all into a vault and do cannonballs into it. Instead of retirement or pretending to be Scrooge McDuck he went on to produce a new movie, Strange Magic. While doing press for he spoke with USA Today and chatted about Star Wars. The original plan was for Lucas to make Star Wars VII, release the film in May of 2015 and then sell it. "It's better for me to get out at the beginning of a new thing and I can just remove myself," Lucas explained why he chose to sell Star Wars to Disney instead of beginning a new trilogy.  While the $4 billion offer is great, Lucas says that wasn't what sealed the deal. "The time is more important to me than the money," Lucas said. A new trilogy would've taken up a decade of his life and that time was far too precious for him, especially now that he has a newborn with his new wife.

You might think Lucas may have regrets about selling Star Wars, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Because he was so involved with the films he never got to experience them like us commoners but that will all change next December when he checks out J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens like the rest of us. "The only thing I really regret about Star Wars is the fact I never got to see it — I never got to be blown out of my seat when the ship came over the screen," Lucas said. "The next one, I'll be able to enjoy it like anybody else."

Star Wars: Episode VII - Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film. It's being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.

Huh... That's interesting.

You know, I honestly think George is awesome with things like the mythology and look of Star Wars...it's just the stuff like character development, character dialogue, and...uh...anything character related where he's kinda crap.

I think he's just better as a big-picture guy. In the prequels, he seemed more invested in developing galactic politics than making us care about the characters.

I can't believe some idiots act like they have personal grudges against this man because he made a few mediocre films. He's a great man (did he not donate billions to charity?) and he kicked off the largest reaching film saga of all time.

George Lucas is pretty much in Stan Lee's position where his company was bought out by Disney and now their making movies based on his characters, only no cameos for Lucas.
