During Disney's Investor Day at the end of 2020, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced plans for a limited series titled Lando. Star Wars legend Billy Dee Williams was never mentioned, and neither was Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover, though it's been widely assumed that the latter would reprise the role after his performance was met with widespread critical acclaim.
The Atlanta star recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via SFFGazette.com), and the host asked the actor and rapper outright whether he's working on this project set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
Unfortunately, his answer was a little vague!
"[Laughs] Am I? You're just telling all my business. They're making another Alien...is that true? [Laughs] No, yeah, I have a lot of things...I like to blossom and then go away," Glover said. "Right now is definitely the start of one of those. I have a tonne of stuff that I've been working on, but I just wanted to feel...I want it all to come out at the same time. That's what's important to me."
That's not a denial, but it's also far from confirmation we'll see him play Lando again. It would be a real shame if Lucasfilm has dropped the ball on this series, as there's a tonne of potential for Glover's version of this character and still dangling plot threads from Solo that need to be addressed.
"The galaxy’s favorite scoundrel, Lando Calrissian, will return in Lando, a brand-new event series for Disney+," reads the logline shared by Disney for Lando. "Justin Simien is in the early stages of developing the project." That's all we know, but again, you have to hope this isn't another of those Star Wars projects that have fallen by the wayside and won't become a reality due to creative issues.
