Maisie Richardson-Sellers Confirms STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Role
Back in September we heard a rumor that Brit newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers was being looked at for a "major role" in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now the actress has confirmed that she has indeed been cast. Click on for her comments..
A few months ago, a couple of major outlets said they'd heard Maisie Richardson-Sellers might be up for a significant role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This was never confirmed however, and many thought this was just another addition for the massive rumor pile surrounding the film, but now the British-born actress has revealed to Refinery29 that we will be seeing her when we revisit the galaxy far, far away next year after all. Richardson-Sellers won't go into any detail on her exact role of course, but there was talk of a "young black or mixed-race woman who may be a descendent of Jedi Knight Ben Kenobi" being a character in an early draft of the script -- could that be who she's playing?
"I auditioned along with thousands of other people. I think it was a worldwide audition process, and it just took off from there, step by step. I’m not allowed to say a lot, unfortunately. But, I think the great thing about J.J. is that he really hunts for talent. It’s not just about the name or what you’ve done. If you look at a lot of the people he did end up casting, many of them haven't done much before, and I think that’s really exciting — that he gives people that kind of opportunity.""
This will mark Richardson-Sellers' first movie role, though she has appeared in several plays including For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, Mephisto and There Will Be Red. She can also be seen on the CW's The Originals. Click the link below for more.
