I didn't think anything would could be worse than the prequels we got. That plotline sounds horrid.

@Dynamo Yeah, I thought the same thing besides a few details. But I think that they handled Padme's death in Ep. 3 better than this.

I agree with Dynamo, this sounds extremely similar. Just a few minor differences. How can you say this would have been alot worse or better?

I really don't understand the hate for the prequels. They made me love star wars. Yes it's different from the first trilogy, but the context is different too. And remember they were made for a new generation, not just for the original fans.
ElDarkside
ElDarkside - 5/23/2013, 7:57 AM
Yeah @Dynamo, I agree that is basically the outline for the prequels anyway. I think the fault with the prequels is that the movies weren't necessarily character driven, like the original trilogy. There was also the fact that Lucas wrote them and he's really not all that good of a writer. He should've just let someone else write them and then consult when needed.

JJ will bring back the character stories and overall fun to the franchise...

I just hope it's not all about cloning Vader and Sidious as the main baddies. I mean I love me some Vader, but we've had 6 movies outlining the rise and fall of anakin/vader. Give me some new bad guys besides the Mandalorians, like the Dark Jedi...

And here I was thinking the prequels couldn't have been more retarded...I was wrong.

So pretty much the ending to Revenge of the Sith, the only good movie to come out of the prequels.

And don't get me wrong, the prequels were not terrible, I did like them and have watched them 100 times with my nephew.

Like @blackagar said...The prequels are loved by the younger generation. My nephew is 6 and he can watch the pod race like 12 times in a row back-to back, so we all have to stop overdissecting everything all the time down to enth degree...

I like the prequels better than the originals. Sorry, it's true. I just can't get interested in Han and Leia's escapades. I love the prequels for being about Jedi!

This is actually how i'd always imagine Anakins turn...actually fits in and makes sense with the original trilogy better though!!!

I'm with Nomis. I like the Star Wars Prequels.

Everyone just thinks its so cool and rad to insult them. Many don't realize the originals HAVE A LOT of the same problems. It's nostalgia bias here and there and everywhere.

You want to insult the Anakin actor? In comparison to who? Mark Hamills Luke? I'm sorry but Mark Hamill is a bad actor too.

And Luke is WAY more whiny than Anakin WITH LESS of a reason to be, as he's spoonfed the entire journey. In the prequels, the council shits on Anakin every chance they get.

How was that very different than what was done, other than the mystery of Jedi's being killed by Anakin. That was the only difference. I know people love to bash the prequels but I didn't think they were that bad. I actually really liked Episode III.

This would have fixed the raging continuity error of Leia remember her "real mother" in Return of the Jedi.

i really like the third part of the prequels.
First one was kinda lame, second one was super lame (Anakin/Padme romance was nail to the coffin, some good action sequences though) but the third one was really cool.

Anakin went full rage mode in this one.
Plus Sam Jackson was really cool in this one.

And I'm not even a Star Wars fan in the first place.

IMO if you think about the plot alone, the prequels aren't bad at all. The clone wars and Jedi extermination are very good when written.

But Lucas got very carried away with the cheezy directind and VFX overuse. Sad.

This was way better than all the prequels.
GrayMatter

The main problem with the prequels is that very little happens in the first two movies that have to do with the plot.

The main plot of TPM is "tensions are rising." The only actual important thing that happens is they find Anakin. What's the plot of AOTC? MOAR tensions are rising. Oh and Anakin gets married. Everything important happens in ROTS: The emporers "reveal," Anakin's turn, the destruction of the Jedi/the destruction of the Republic, the fight between Anakin and Obi-wan etc. etc.

It's why ROTC is the best one, but also why it's big flaw is that it's rushed. Anakin goes from "I'm gonna turn in Palpatine" to "I'm gonna murder children for Palpatine" in what, 34 seconds?

Double Post

You can argue that Jar Jar and the Gungans are no more silly than the Ewoks, and you'd have a point. But the difference is that the Ewoks helped the Rebellion to blow up the Death Star, indirectly take out the Emperor, and bring down the Empire. The Gungans fought a robot army in a pointless battle that literally was forgotten about by the next movie. So not only were they annoying, but they served no purpose in the bigger, overall plot of the trilogy.

KeefNCookies - 5/23/2013, 9:28 AM
I liked the prequels just fine with a very strong exception of the relationship focus and older Anakin as a whole (literally everything about him). Jar Jar was annoying but took a backseat so it didnt bother me much, and I feel that Sam Jackson was a poor choice. There were a lot of great things to come from it, but I think its biggest failing was trying to tell 3 stories at 3 different time periods, leaving out tremendous gaps [Clone Wars for example] and a great deal of foreshadowing the destination that took away from the journey itself and became petty and uninteresting.

Agree with Fogs on the Clone Wars & Jedi Extermination, however with the cartoon series, Anakin is actually somewhat likable (unlike II & III where hes a whiney, petulant child), thus I have a really hard time actually thinking of it as same continuity when it feels so different, and so much better..!

The new series [Rogues; III½] does have me actually interested in seeing Star Wars again, and I have always loved the idea of the greater SW-Universe (BobaFett books FTW), but I dont really care about the core hero-characters anymore.
