With the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story set to take place 10 years before 1977's A New Hope speculation was only naturally rife about any original trilogy characters cameoing in the film. Speaking to Cape Up last week, franchise star Mark Hamill seemingly let slip that Anthony Daniels' C3-PO would appear in the Ron Howard directed spin-off film.
"Daniels was so happy, because he's in every single Star Wars movie. Every single one. All the prequels, he's in Rogue One, he's in Solo...Whoops! I hope that's not, erm, but anyway, he's in every single Star Wars movie. That's not such a reveal - all Star Wars fans expect him to be in every movie."
It is true that the unlucky protocol droid has appeared in evevery live-action film in the long-running sci-fi franchise, though speaking to Uproxx Solo co-writer Jon Kasdan confirmed that while Daniels is in the movie, it's not as C3-PO.
"No, but Anthony Daniels is in the movie as a different character. In the Papillon type offshoot story, the Wookiee that helps them escape, Chewbacca’s best friend, is played by Anthony Daniels – and beckons him to join them as they escape on a different ship."
This marks a first for the Star Wars franchise, but not a surprising one, as it would take some work for a Threepio cameo to make sense and they don't want to risk a forced appearence ala Cornellius Evazan and Ponda Baba in Rogue One.
What do you think? Are you glad that Daniel's is still in the film? Or would have liked them to fit C3-PO in there somewhere? Leave your thoughts below.
