SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY's Emilia Clarke Talks GAME OF THRONES Creators Joining The STAR WARS Franchise

When Star Wars: Episode IX hits theatres next December the main Star Wars saga as we know it will be over. Despite this, LucasFilm and Disney are determined to continue giving us films set in the popular science-fiction universe and along with the "A Star Wars Story" banner, we will soon be getting a couple of standalone film trilogies as well.

Two of these have been announced thus far, the first of which will come from The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson who is currently working on the story, and the other from the creators of Game of Thrones David Benioff and DB Weiss. who will commence work on the project when the HBO show concludes with its next season.

Actress Emilia Clarke is in the unique position of having both worked with the duo on Game of Thrones and appearing in Solo: A Star Wars Story. This makes her the perfect person to comment on the intersectionality of this franchise and Benioff & Weiss. While speaking to Variety, the Terminator Genisys star did just that.

"What they brought to fantasy as a genre that people are like, appreciating on a much grander scale, putting all of that creativity and all of that skill and intellect into something that already has so much, I think it's just gonna be like Star Wars on acid. I think it'll be amazing. I can't wait."

There's no word on what the pair have in store for the franchise but Disney CEO Bob Iger did reveal that "they're focused on a point in time in the Star Wars mythology," with LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy adding that Benioff and Weiss "will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

What do you think? Are you excited for Benioff and Weiss to join the Star Wars franchise? What kind of film would you like to see them helm? Leave your thoughts below.

Disney is desperate to create something other than the Skywalker saga. That can't sustain itself forever. They know this and that is what this will try to be. They need something new folks can get genuinely excited for.

@ThorArms - and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I'm so tired of Star Wars retreads. Just give me something new. The original trilogy was based on high fantasy tropes and one of the most well known story structures on the planet. There's a lot more fantasy tropes to draw on so stop revisiting the same story over and over and over.

@MrDandy - And there it lies the double-standard. "Let the past die / we don't need the OT" but Mrs. Kennedy continues to green-lit products based on the OT lore.

the art of solo book is awesome. it is the best one they have made for these 4 new films. so if you are going to get it. watch the movie first cause it is filled with spoilers.

Gotta admit, I honestly don't have faith in these guys. Game of Thrones was great up until they decided going beyond the books. They don't have that great distinctive artistic creativity what is needed for a franchise like this in my eyes. Same goes for Rian Johnson's trilogies. I am totally fine if both these trilogies are, for example, directly made for the disney streaming service. I do look forward to Favreau's series, because he does have that amount of creativity needed in my opinion

@MalseMarcel - I actually really liked season 6. I think the writers of Game of Thrones really struggled in season 7 with a shorter episode count and wrapping up storylines/characters (they did you wrong Littlefinger) that they really didn't know what to do with.

The Benioff and Weiss movie series and the Rian Johnson trilogy (as well as Favreau’s TV series) makes me so excited for the future of Star Wars. So many places they can go. I think a lot of people lack imagination of where this franchise could be in six or seven years.

A series of upcoming products with no clear direction but most of all full of lies from Mrs. Kennedy. We all remember the significantly important lie about Luke Skywalker and how it turn out to be!
