SPOILERS: We Finally Know Whether STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Will Feature A New Death Star

There have been rumblings for a while now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will feature a new Death Star but some Force Friday II packaging finally provides an answer about what's to come in the movie...

Star Wars: The Force Awakens didn't feature a Death Star but The First Order did utilise the Starkiller base, a planet capable of even more destruction than those moon sized weapons ever were. Well, with that now destroyed, it's been confirmed that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is going to feature a third Death Star and it definitely bears a striking resemblance to previous versions. So, what role will it play?

We don't know but it's possible The First Order will have several of these, especially as the technology used here arguably pales in comparison to what the Starkiller base used in the last Star Wars movie.

On the other hand, given Kylo Ren's obsession with his grandfather, it's plausible that he's built this as his home (that is the villain's new TIE Fighter speeding away from it in the image below). We'll just have to wait and see but this reveal adds a very interesting new wrinkle to the highly anticipated release. What do you guys think? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts and theories down below.

@Himura -
This better not turn out like the old Star Wars Legends novels, where it at one point devolved into a bunch of repetitive "Superweapon-of-the-week" plots.

That's just generic box art.

There's no way they'd go down that road again. I think this is just random box art

There's just no way they'd go there. Gotta be just generic "Look, a Death Star - it's Star Wars" box art.

Or art to show the connection of that ship to the old Empire stuff.

Sorry, but that is a depiction of the first Death Star. (I don't know from where, because the |-|-|-|-| under the laser emitter wasn't in the movie)

Anyway, from wookiepedia:

@FrankieDedo - Congratulations! You did more research for your one comment than Wilding did for his entire "article" (read: clickbait).

I know, i know. :( My bad, i promise that it won't happen again. It's just that i ran out of rants and nostalgic old-man-yells and i tried that thing those pesky kids say you should do.

You know, thinking before writing something on the internet. :P

Anyway, they could have brought again the original Lucas idea for EpVI, that had TWO death stars the same size of the first instead of only one, just bigger.

In the Legends comics the third death star popped out somewhere, if i remember correctly.

The death star will be getting a lot of residuals for all of the times it has appeared in Star Wars films.

Hope not. But, I don't have a lot of faith in Kennedy to understand what else to do with this franchise that hasn't already been done. Hope to be proven wrong, though.
