STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Will Confirm The Direction Of Finn And Poe Dameron's Relationship

Will "StormPilot" be the love story of this new Star Wars trilogy? Actor John Boyega provides a subtle clue on the nature of the relationship between Finn and Poe Dameron in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Fans of "StormPilot" - the internet's phrase for the romantic relationship between Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) - will finally get a definitive direction for where the characters' storyline (and possibly relationship) is headed in The Last Jedi.

Speaking to Boyega, Mashable straight-up asked the actor about StormPilot, and whether or not Episode VIII will establish the two as Star Wars' first openly gay couple onscreen. Boyega wouldn't answer directly, but did seemingly confirm that we'll finally get an answer in The Last Jedi.

"I’ve watched the film and I will confirm, that will be confirmed in The Last Jedi — you will know exactly which way it’s going. Seriously, you’ll know, by the time you watch it, you’ll know," Boyega cryptically responded.

It's worth noting that just about everyone involved in The Last Jedi has been asked about Finn and Poe. While Oscar Isaac said he's "very open to those possible storylines," director Rian Johnson has already said "there wasn't an opportunity" to explore an LGBTQ relationship in The Last Jedi. That being said, the director, who is also tasked with creating a brand new Star Wars trilogy after Episode IX, has said in the past that it's "important" that LGBTQ relationships "and other elements of society today" are being reflected in Star Wars movies. Laura Dern's Admiral Holdo has been revealed to be LGBTQ in an Episode VIII tie-in novel, but it seems there's a growing desire to see LGBTQ representation in the Star Wars universe on the big screen.

Is "StormPilot" the love story you want to see told in the new Star Wars trilogy?

@Supercat6376 - to appease people and because they hugged in TFA. If it serves a story purpose ok but to do it because you feel pressured is dumb. Finn asked Rey if she had a boyfriend so I took that as him being interested in her.

@ComicKahn - Yeah, that is how everyone SHOULD have taken it. I'm all for representation of the LGBQT community...but this would feel forced. Hell, it would make more sense if Rey was lesbian or bi, because there has been nothing I can think of that would suggest she was only straight. That line by Finn basically confirms he is into women lol.

@ComicKahn - I just feel like they overthink this stuff . I’m not going to the movies to be a social justice warrior. I want a break from everyday life . You know if they make them a thing its something that they talked about for months and put wayyyyy to much thought into. It’s starwars not the supreme court, not that there’s anything wrong with that lol

@Supercat6376 - I agree, its the same with the people pushing a Bucky and Cap romance. Completely ignoring the whole Sharon Carter thing

@ComicKahn - Yeah, it's w/e though...with what ever happens as long as it serves the story like you said, i'm not going to be upset or anything. Just would be strange with the way he acted with Rey that would at least need to be addressed.

@ComicKahn - to push it for the sake of pushing it is where I have a problem. Two men can be friends and not be romantically involved. There’s always gonna be an opportunity to advance that agenda for those that believe storngly about it. I honestly don’t but it’s like now we’re saying two men can’t be great friends willing to go to war together.

@Menks123 - that’s a good point. IF it serves the story that’s fine. But these writers sometimes forget they’re writers not politicians and activists.

@Supercat6376 - its annoying, as soon as 2 guys get close, the push for them to be lovers starts

@Supercat6376 - Because everyone has to be Gay in movies, just like Wonder Woman HAS to have a love interest. They just can’t let the characters be friends and let the adventure be what they share.

@ComicKahn - that’s what I think is my issue. We’ve become so hyper sensitive we can’t just enjoy things for what they are. We have to push to make it more.

@Supercat6376 - Agreed, this is absolute horse shish! Star Wars needs to be untouched by that political real world nonsense and be how it always has been. Not to appease everyone, but be simplistic, great story telling that leads us on a galactic adventure and it will undoubtedly still draw just as many people for decades to come!
