STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER's Daisy Ridley Feels THE LAST JEDI Backlash Is "Fair"

Although she doesn't seem to agree with them, exactly, Daisy Ridley has acknowledged that a lot of fans took issue with Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and believes they have every right to voice their opinion.

Although Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi was embraced by critics and did make a packet at the box office, there's no getting away from the fact that it alienated a lot of fans who simply couldn't get on board with some of the story and character decisions.

Well, as it turns out, Daisy Ridley empathizes with their plight.

During an interview with USA Today, the actress was asked if she was surprised by the hostile reception the penultimate installment in the Skywalker Saga received from some fans.

"I wasn't surprised, no. It’s just a different thing," replied Ridley. "Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair. If people hold something incredibly dear and think they know how it should be and it's not like that, it’s fair for people to think they were done wrong.

It doesn’t mean they were – ultimately, Rian’s a filmmaker and one person can’t dictate how a film is supposed to be – but freedom of expression, sure."

Ridley has previously promised that The Rise of Skywalker will serve as a satisfying conclusion to the saga, but that obviously remains to be seen.

What do you guys make of Daisy's comments? Sound off in the usual place, and let us know if you're looking forward to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker this December.
