TERMINATOR Franchise Heading To Netflix As An Anime Series From THE BATMAN Writer Mattson Tomlin

Terminator: Dark Fate was actually pretty damn good, but the movie underperformed at the box office, and once again left the franchise in limbo. However, Skydance Media is set to take another crack at it, this time with an anime series that's making its way to Netflix from Mattson Tomlin.

He co-wrote The Batman and also penned Project Power for the streaming service. On this Terminator project, he'll be serving as showrunner and executive producer.

"Anyone who knows my writing knows I believe in taking big swings and going for the heart," Tomlin said. "I'm honored that Netflix and Skydance have given me the opportunity to approach Terminator in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts."

"Terminator is one of the most iconic sci-fi stories ever created–and has only grown more relevant to our world over time," Netflix Vice President of Japan and Anime added. "The new animated series will explore this universe in a way that has never been done before. We can’t wait for fans to experience this amazing new chapter in the epic battle between machines and humans."

No plot details have been revealed, but this is the latest anime based on a huge franchise from Netflix as the streamer looks to cash in on the popularity (and cost-effectiveness) of that genre.

Are you excited for more Terminator?

@TheMapleSyrup - Nah. If one franchise can thrive as an anime it's definitely Terminator. And then Predator.

@SonOfAGif - Yeah maybe. If anything I think a terminator video game would be the best route to go.

@TheMapleSyrup - Surprisingly the many Terminator games that have come out have been awful. Many fans have disliked even the newest Resistance game as well.

@TheMapleSyrup - - they might as well cross over with the Walking Dead and throw in Mila Jovovich as a kill queen, Larry David as Rick Sanchez, and Tom Holland as Morty. Kitchen sink included

I don't know if I have the energy for another Terminator property, been burned by T3 to Dark Fate.

Bar the Sarah Connor Chronicles, the Only sequel to T1 and T2 I enjoyed was the Terminator Resistance Game on PS4

If it's done as well as Castlevania I'm all for it.

Netflix just goes full on with the anime trend. It's dirt cheap to produce and these days the production pipeline for a 6 episode anime can be rather quick with outsourcing.
The first season of Castlevania was wrapped in about 2 months from what I remember hearing, so Netflix pushing as many franchises through the anime grinder is no surprise.

Anyways, I'm still for a new Terminator movie that has Arnold be hunted through the city by a Terminator.
