The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.

Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke, Matt Smith, Byung-hun Lee, Courtney B. Vance, and J.K. Simmons, Terminator Genisys is set to be released on July 1st.

"The twist is more than you expected"? Are they implying that the twist revealed in the previews is not the complete twist? Otherwise, its a pretty ironic claim to make in a TV spot that shows the plot twist openly.

After Jurassic World destroying the BO like that all bets are off as far I'm concerned. I'm still not really interested in watching this, but who knows?

As for the twist - I always said there had to be more to the whole thing than what they showed, otherwise it would have been a completely idiotic move. Then again, sometimes something dumb is just something dumb. We'll see.

I didn't know which would be the bigger franchise turd in Jurassic World VS TERMINATOR: GENISYS. JP shocked the nation with Box Office a decent fun ride. Your move Skynet.

@Niklander

Genisys looks pretty on the nose about bringing the feel of the first movie. A bit more so than JW. They've basically taken the best two installments, the first and the second, and mashed them together- at the same time, possibly undermining those same two films with a new timeline.

Abrams Star Trek is supposed to be part of the previous films?

That's cool. These are all ideas and speculation based on what we know so far. There's no guarantee that what they've done here will make a bad film, just as using Cameron's original ideas won't guarantee a good film. I think that aspect would be stronger if the film was actually a Camron Terminator film.

I am curious as to how they're going to explain all this. Buff Kyle Reece, different T-1000 and young Sarah seem more like an alternate reality than a different timeline. If all the movies including Salvation are to be in the same universe, I'd like to see how that's handled in TG.

Looking forward to that new Kung Fu Panda?

I would've loved to find out about John Connor in the movie, it would've been awesome, IF there is another better twist, then by all means let's go, but the trailer damage on this movie is fvcking real...
