The Live-Action "Star Wars" TV Series Seems to be Coming Sooner Than Thought!

The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan is reporting that work is progressing on the Star Wars live-action TV series, with writers working on scripts for the proposed first season of the ultimate sci-fi show...

... George Lucas and executive producer Rick McCallum want all the scripts for the show's first season to be completed before production begins.

"They are working with writers on scripts," a Lucasfilm representative said in response to a query. "They won't set a production date [for Season 1] until the scripts are done."

But work on the unnamed show's scripts appears to be at an advanced stage, but lets be honest here, so they should considering the writing of the live-action show began a good two years ago.

The Star Wars show would be set between Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope, and will not feature any major characters from the movie series and the rumor is, it is in preproduction in Australia, officially that is not confirmed though.

The show is being developed independently by Lucasfilm with writers from all over the world and has not found a home on any TV network yet.

For the casting: "They met with people in several countries (including Australia) early on but they are not currently casting. They are not going to start casting until the scripts are completed," said a Lucasfilm rep.

Many thanks to the Chicago Tribune, link below.

LEEE777 - I couldn't be happier, Star Wars was always my first love, way before the Marvel and DC and others Universes. We've all been waiting for this baby for so long, i for one can't wait, lets hope it delivers.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, but this sounds interesting. Fister.

I'm not really a fan of the franchise, as I have yet to see any of the movies, but it seems to me that they've spent 6 movies and two animated series focusing on this one point in time that spans 40 odd years.(Someone correct me if I'm wrong).Anyway, wouldn't it make more sense to take the series and explore some other eras of this universe? Why not tell stories that take place after the films, or even before it.From what I've heard, alot of the expanded novels and comics are pretty good. Why not adapt those? Are any fans really that interested in what happened between episodes 3 and 4?Are there pressing questions about that time fans have longed to have answered? And it doesn't even focus on the characters you know. You're getting 22-24 40 minute episodes over multiple seasons. It would seem like they would take this opportunity to delve into other interesting parts of this franchise, or at least create a new storyline set way before or way after the current trilogies.

By the way, does anyone else have a problem with prequels that take place only a few years in the past?Creatively, your hands are pretty tied when it comes to characters who are in the original film. There is very little danger because they obviously survived for the original film. And if you introduce new characters, they obviously are gonna either die, or have little influence on the overall story, because they were not in the original film.Anyway, that's my two cents.

Also, I'm wondering how long it will actually take for the series to go to air? They have to finish the scripts, hire actors, film the series, find a network and then wait until the network schedules the show. That sounds like a year and a half minimum.

@kenny- Wow. When you put it in that context, the Star Wars franchise is just eh. I've never looked at it from that stand point.

I understand that this is taking a while, Lucas talked once about doing anywhere from 50-100 episodes at once!

Hey everyone, check out my Blackest Night Lobo story

Lobo’s Blackest Night, or: Lobo’s Posthumous X-Mas Special

It is good, but I advise that only those that have no problems with graphic violence and language check this out, it gets a bit grissly.

Good stuff LEE! :) I love the original movies with a passion but if this were to end up as bad as the recent ones or Smallville, lol, I'll be gutted! Seriously though, Firefly was a great quality TV show set in space and that was 8 years ago so this has the potential to be EPIC!!!

I've been waiting for this series to start since they announced it like 2 years ago, I really hope Lucas stays out of most of it, since he was so involved in the prequels and even though I like them they still kinda suck

bropous-- True that! I am Star Wars-ed out. They are going to have to win me back and it is going to be hard. I'm 33 so I'm sure Lucas could give shit about my opinion unless I have children, that is.

The best thing about Star Wars are the books, comics, and games anyway and hmmmmmmm those are the things that Lucas dips his controlling cock in the least, imagine that.

I wonder how the Star Wars U. might change after Lucas dies? WHO will Lucas bequeath control of his kingdom to?
