First conceived by director/producer/writer James Cameron fourteen years ago, "Avatar" centers the story around a wounded ex-marine (Sam Worthington), who is thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, and eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle like no other for survival.

LEEE777 - Damn damn damn, this could blow everyone away! I don't know about you, but I'm first in line to see this baby! ; )

This trailer is a little better than the first I'll admit. Though that really isn't a big accomplishment, seeing as how the first trailer sucked balls.

Still, I'm quite apprehensive about the film as a whole. It looks as if it's all style and substance took a back-seat.

Not to mention how unoriginal it seems to be.

I've said this many times, I'm going to see this movie, in IMAX 3D, so the Avatar fanatics won't flail at me if I didn't like the movie and saw it in regular theaters, saying "3D is the only way to appreciate it!"

The thing is, its only the Ackles love club that don't like this movie!!

Says it all right there lol! ; D

You actually believe that don't you!:)

Yeah, better trailer, still not sold on Worthington changing accents..in the [frick]ing TRAILER. And the unoriginality. And the "never look at movies the same way again revolutionary industry changing cgi" that looks like Shrek..BUT, I will go see it in 3d and if i'm wrong, I was wrong!

ok i saw it. so its a story about white people trying to remove non-white "savages" from their land in order to steal it and rape the land for thier own profit. huh....i dont know what your talking about ror, seems like a completely original story to me. and quite fictional as well.
superdog

also, apparently there so far in the future and so advanced that they have all that technology and they can create human alien hybrids and transfer consciosnesses......but they cant cure spinal cord injuries or facial scars? and wheelchairs are apparently unchanged in hundreds of years? as are t-shirts?

Trailer looks awesome. Story not the most original...

basic outside imperialist/colonial entity wants something the natives have...can't negotiate them off their land...so decide to exterminate them or assimilate them, covertly and overly... that's just modern European global expansion..

but the methods to relate it are very original. Good incorporation of sci-fi and modern elements.

btw, I think Sam Worthington would look better as Wonder Man rather than Captain America...

lol @ Superdog & T-bag

Superdog: good points

I'm not getting my hopes up at all except that I HOPE I can be objective when I watch it.

I don't think I'm a very good judge of good/bad CGI.
I don't know why but CGI quality rarely bothers me when I am actually watching the film, but later when discussing it with pals online, if low qualitty is pointed out to me then I can recognize it.

@ Ror, your probably not wrong man, just sayin. But your good soldier for seeing it anyway lol

Arguably the most unoriginal film ever made.

Runefyst - 10/29/2009, 11:15 AM
It sure doesn't look original. For some reason the trailer actually reminds me of Ferngully! lol

But that doesn't stop it from lookin awesome! Can't wait to see this. :)

dont get me wrong, ill probably see it. but i'll wait for some reviews first. if i see it i will want to see it in the 3d imax version which will not be cheap. so im gonna make sure its worth it before i shell out the big bucks.

The problem is...when something is overhyped, it can be decent and STILL disappoint. That's probably the case here. I'll see it, but probably not in 3D unless I hear from people how great it was. I won't be checking it out the first night, that's for sure.

i don't mean to be negative about something so many of my fanboy/fangirl kin are so amp'd up about...but i don't get it. i mean, it seems quite strange to me that this is being hailed as a leap forward in cg/special fx technology. in my opinion, the physics of the alien characters' bodies and physical appearance have no cohesion or mathematical logic to their textures, appearances, weights, textures or movements. i get it, anything alien doesn't have to abide earthling dynamics...but it remains likely that biological consistency exists even in the most fantastic reaches of space. the films hailed as tech revolutions never are...for obvious reasons.

Runefyst--'ferngully' is exactly what it looks like. if there was a night-war in 'ferngully' this would be it. i question the artistic genius in weaving the theme of primitive noble savages who are in-sync with nature warring with the mechanical-culture invading environmental hellhounds. i fear that several years from now this is going to seem like low-ball green opportunism in filmmaking.

Yeah, it's only the Ackles fans that are criticizing the movie. That's why superdog and Rorshach among others have been criticizing it?
Runefyst
Runefyst - 10/29/2009, 1:02 PM
My thing is, it doesn't need to be an original story. As long as the story is told WELL.

Cameron's responsible for Terminator 1 & 2, Aliens & Titanic. I've got faith that he'll tell another amazing story. :)
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 10/29/2009, 1:03 PM
LOL @ inlove.. That's not what it seems like right now?

In all truth that's exactly what it is lol. But there's only so many times film makers can cash in on specious megatrends in popular opinion before it just gets old.

tyler@ oh comon man, you know im a tackles lover from waaayyyyy back :) and to be clear, im not criticizing the movie persay, as i have not seen it. im only critiquing the marketing and trailers and the overhyped bullshit being fed us. so as of right now the movie looks like a big meh to me. but like ror, i will watch it and if im wrong i will write a review and be the first to admit it. but right now, it definitely looks like dances with wolves with blue indians.
darkkami
darkkami - 10/29/2009, 1:38 PM
It may not be original, but I personally love the movies it steals from. And seeing it combined into a one big 3d flick seems fine with me. Last Samurai and Ferngully. Last samurai would have been better without Cruise and Ferngully had a "kids save the rain forest" message, but other than that, I liked the over all plots and direction from both. Just my opinions.
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 10/29/2009, 2:01 PM
superdog: Really? I didn't know you liked Ackles.

I didn't mean criticizing the movie itself, I meant criticizing what we have seen so far of the movie, so that was a misunderstanding there.

I'm with you though. I'm going to see the movie, and I will gladly admit I was wrong if it turns out great.
Minotauro
Minotauro - 10/29/2009, 2:05 PM
Good job @LEEE

I'm curious why nobody used the cliche sentence "Man! They showed the entire movie in the trailer" XD

I guess it's looked at as comic book movies are the original stories now a days!.. The movie may not be original, which unfortunately no movie today is original except if you like reboots, sequels, and prequels.. And the hype about this movie is around the 3D aspect of it..

@Tyler and if it isn't in 3D, then I ain't bothering to see it cause that's pretty much what it's foundation was laid upon

This pretty much sums it up...

Yeah, I don't think that any of us on this site WANT this movie to fail. I think we all want it to live up to the hype. It's just hard to believe it based on what's been seen thus far.
