"The ending you saw in the theaters is my preferred ending," said Wright. "But I like showing everything!"

"The original ending had Gideon turning into a giant robot," revealed Wright. "That never went anywhere. We got rid of that because Bryan wasn't going to do that in the comics, and also we thought it would look like a 'Transformers' spoof, so we ditched it."

"It changed for something we're all happy with," he added. "The original ending, when we had test screenings, it would kind of divide people. Over that kind of process, Bryan changed the endings of the books and I was aware that the ending we had wasn't quite as satisfying as it should be, so we had the chance -- and Universal were totally behind the idea -- of shooting something new. When we screened it again, the scores went hugely up."

@FlashGordon2287 I would have been pissed if that was the final scene, especially because I almost walked out of the theater when I DID see it because I thought he was going to pick her over Ramona. Thankfully it turned out otherwise.

There was something about that ending so hokey and lame that makes the rest of the movie a stump.
FlashGordon2287
FlashGordon2287 - 11/12/2010, 6:05 PM
@ANight2Embrace, I was not going to walk out as I heard that the ending was changed to what it is now because we spent a whole film about Scott getting to Ramona only for him to leave her for Knives? Then what would be the point of the movie?

I never read the Scott Pilgrim comic, but I do prefer the theatrical release ending to this one. Is this what happened in the comic?

@Skyler, Scott end s up with Ramona in the comic.

skyler@yeah but (not to sound girly) but since this film was compressed(but still AWESOME !) it didnt feel as emotional and romantic as the ending in the comic cause in the film it feels like he's been with her for a week while the comic it feels like a couple of years, and to tell you the truth I cried in the end.....well I just lost a lot of Manliness

lol @ manliness. It's okay, I didn't cry for that film, but other films get me. The ending of Lost made everyone cry lol.

I'm glad they changed the ending, Scott going back to Knives would completely ruin the whole point of the movie: Ramona
I do wish we could have seen the NegaScott battle though...

The whole point of the movie was that Scott and Ramona were bad for each other and it would never work out between them. Knives was always there for Scott and really loved him and it showed at the end.

The only reason Scott dated Knives was because he wanted things to be simple again like when he was a teen, unready to grow up. Ramona helps Scott to grow, that's why this ending doesn't work IMO because it basically shows Scott regressing back to an immature douche.

I just watched that alternate ending video on youtube. Was the whole movie like this? Because if so I'm glad I took a pass on it.

@Hannibal_King, no the movie is fun and innovative its just that that ending that I posted is so out of left field that I can understand why everyone dislikes it. Trust me the movie is good. IF you can get part suspension of disbelief (and why wouldn't you if you're on this site) the first 20 minutes are kind of slow but still funny but when the first fight starts it gets going so, give it a shot and who knows maybe you will be surprised.

I Loved this movie, and I am so glad this ending was not the "real" one. In fact, I kind of wished I hadn't seen this ending, kind of feel like a major (movie-killing) bullet was dodged. IMHO

This ending sucked. So glad they changed it.

I think the end scene with Gideon would have benefitted if they had waited for the comic. The collection of ex's that he had might have been cool, but I thought it would have definitely been beneficial if they kept how he was controlling her. The mind control was funny, but I thought it was smarter with the subspace idea. Then they could have explained that concept better.

And some of the deleted scenes were pretty good too. I would have liked to see a director's cut. Especially more scenes with Scott and Ramona. I didn't feel like they had enough chemistry between them.

Anyway, watching for the third time tonight since I bought it tuesday. Phenomenal movie!!

Hmm... The movie is damn near perfect, yet I still want an extended director's cut. Why? Because everything Edgar Wright touches turns to gold. (Fried gold, for my fellow "Spaced" fans out there.)

Which reminds me, if you liked Scott Pilgrim, Hot Fuzz, or Shaun Of The Dead, go watch "Spaced" RIGHT EFFING NOW.

@ HawHaw, I agree with you. Edgar Wright has not had a bad movie. Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz were so awesome.

I can't wait for the remake of Them and Ant-man, which according to IMDb are Wright's next movies.

It's funny I'm reading this article the day after I saw the movie and watched all the dvd deleted scenes. I didn't like the alternate ending and the movie started a little slow, but overall it was funny, entertaining, original, and worked for me.
