“We are Sex Bob-Omb, and we are here to make you think about death and get sad and stuff.”

Last year, we got the news that Netflix and UCP (The Umbrella Academy, Chucky) were developing a new anime series based on acclaimed comic book Scott Pilgrim, with creator/artist Bryan Lee O’Malley on board as executive producer.

Now, the streamer has debuted an announcement teaser revealing that the entire cast of Edgar Wright's 2010 Scott Pilgrim vs. The World live-action movie are returning to voice their respective characters!

The series will feature Michael Cera as Scott, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as Young Neil, Mark Webber Stephen Still, Mae Whitman as Roxie and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.

“We’re getting the band back together!” said O’Malley and Grabinski in a joint statement. “A stellar cast, perfectly assembled by Edgar Wright. And, with Science SARU leading the phenomenal animation, we couldn’t ask for a better team for this adventure. We can’t wait for fans and newcomers alike to see what we and our partners at Science SARU have been cooking up. It’s going to be a wild ride.”

“One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim,” Wright added. “Since the film’s release in 2010 we’ve done Q&A’s, remembrances and charity read throughs, but there was never the occasion to reunite the whole gang on an actual project until now. Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer Ben David Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it. I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”

“It’s official … we’ve been obsessed with Scott Pilgrim!” said Choi. “This series has been a wild ride, full of fresh and thrilling experiences for everyone at Science SARU. Working with such amazing artists and animators under the visionary leadership of director Abel Gongora has been an absolute dream come true. Our team is over the moon about bringing the Scott Pilgrim world to life. We can hardly contain our excitement … this is going to be epic!”

No premiere date has been announced.

@bobevanz - I’ve seen this movie conservatively 30 times since it came out and no showing has been as excellent as last year in the dolby theater. It was like watching for the first time all over again.

i know this particular term gets thrown a lot. BUT, if ever there was a movie that truly deserved the tagline “completely underrated movie!”, this would be it.

As much as I love the movie (it is one of the few films I've seen in the last decade I can actually stomach watching again... which with me and movies is actually saying something) I do wonder if the show is going to stick a lot closer to the comic book. Like Scott Pilgrim is one of those adaptations that actually did stick pretty close to the source fir the first third I believe but I believe around the battle with Lucas Lee and especially Todd they really stopped following what happened in the comics and did more their own thing. Which worked in the movie but a show coming out years later after the book was all done (the comic was still being worked on when the movie was filming) and being animated means they can totally expand and have the reality be a totally different thing if they want to so yeah can't wait to check this series out.

@DianaGohan - It's a bit like Akira in that way. It follows the first third fairly closely and then speeds through the rest of it like it needs to pee.

It would be cool if they could somehow go back and re-adapt everything they missed, in this cartoon.

Super hot take

I hate this film with a passion. One of the dumbest movies I've ever seen.

Ok, GO!
