Marvel Studios Will Lose Over $300,000 A Day Due To SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Delay

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Disney's decision to hit the pause button on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is going to have major financial implications for Marvel Studios.

The trade explains that shutting down a film like that and The Little Mermaid will set Disney back by anywhere from $300,000 - $350,000 a day. "It's not like you can stop on a dime," one producer tells the trade about the ramifications of a decision like this one. "You need to keep department heads going and maybe a level down from there through the hiatus."

It's already been reported that new James Bond movie No Time to Die - which had finished shooting - will lose between $30 million - $50 million by moving to November, while it's said A Quiet Place: Part 2's indefinite delay is set to set Paramount Pictures back by around $30 million.

As of right now, there's no word on how much Mulan being pushed back will cost Disney.

Interestingly, the trade notes that Mulan, No Time to Die, and F9 taking out Super Bowl adverts means that a collective $15 million has been wiped out. It's no wonder the global box office is expected to lose upwards of $10 billion this year, and it will take studios and theater chains a long time to recover.

Will this be the beginning of the end of the moviegoing experience? It could certainly lead to a shift in how and where people watch films, but it's likely too soon to start thinking about that.

Kind of amazing that the one time Marvel studios loses money is because of a pandemic and not because of a movie's underperformance.

It's the mcu. They will cover the loss in the opening weekend alone. We are talking about the most danger-proof franchise in the world right now.
