SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Expected To Surpass BLACK WIDOW To Become #1 Movie Of 2021

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has proven itself more than just an "experiment," and it's now set to top Black Widow to become the #1 movie in North America this year. Read on for details...

After another successful weekend at the box office, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings managed to surpass the domestic totals of both A Quiet Place Part 2 and F9: The Fast Saga. However, Deadline has now revealed that the movie will soon top Black Widow's $183.2 million haul.

As of right now, the latest Marvel Studios movie has earned $176.9 million, meaning it's a week or so away from becoming the highest-grossing movie at the U.S. box office this year.

Shang-Chi is also likely to become the first 2021 movie to hit the $200 million mark in the U.S.

We're still waiting on updated worldwide numbers, but the latest Phase 4 release did recently hit $250 million (on September 12). These are unprecedented times for the box office with COVID-19 still causing problems across the globe, and unfortunately for Shang-Chi, it probably won't be released in China, which is reportedly a result of past comments from star Simu Liu about the country.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released exclusively in theaters with a 45-day window, so we should be able to watch it at home on Digital platforms as soon as mid-October.

In our latest review of the movie, we concluded by saying, "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is nothing short of action movie perfection; this is the MCU like you’ve never seen before, and it’s no exaggeration to say Simu Liu was born to play the MCU’s newest Avenger."

It has a worldwide total of $320.6 million. It’s on its way to a modest profit.

@Liverpool4life - released during one of the historically weakest timeframes of the calendar year, during a pandemic upsweep, amid strife and division on its very release format…..but, please, let’s by all means underplay its rampant and numerous successes.

@SauronthePower - I don't want to downplay the films achievements (I thoroughly enjoyed it), but I feel Simu himself was disappointed that it didn't hit the billion dollar club (a Jimmy Fallon interview)?

@Liverpool4life - I believe Disney told variety or THR that Shang chi already broke even for them on its 2nd week. Anything after that is just profit now. Disney only spent about 30 mil on marketing due to the pandemic and that it didn't need it because "its Marvel". Black Widow however spent a lot.

It’s well deserved. I liked it more than Black Widow.

@Kadara - if anything she comes out better in this because the data on Theatrical Exclusive now firmly supports her case

@Kadara - Anything but poor IMO. She got cut a check of 20mil as Disney broke her contract and her lawsuit seems to be getting some ground which is being proven by Shang Chi's performance. if anything she's already planning on what Yacht to buy next summer. 😅

@Jaykay21 - not this again... LOL.

Out of curiosity, do you know what specifically the lawsuit is about to claim Disney broke it? Because it's not black and white and I could see it going either way tbh. There does seem to be a lack of understanding for what it's about.

@TheWalkingCuban - Disney added D+ to BW's domestic box office when paying her out, so Shang-Chi's theatrical run has to beat BW's theatrical run + D+ and it baring a miracle, it won't.

Some people don't seem to understand this.
