Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opened on Thursday night with $8.8 million, but we now have some updated opening weekend projections for the latest Marvel Studios movie.

According to Deadline, the latest Phase 4 title was eyeing a $25 million Friday, giving it the distinction of having the third-highest opening day in the pandemic era (Black Widow netted $39.5 million, while F9: The Fast Saga revved up $29.9 million). Now, Shang-Chi is looking at a $60+ million haul during the Labor Day weekend, which is a 126% increase over the previous record-holder: Halloween.

The trade notes that it's possible the movie will earn even more, but should it fall short of $60 million, it will still be a good result, especially with the odds stacked against it due to COVID.

Positive word of mouth will help Shang-Chi, and a 98% "Audience Score" on Rotten Tomatoes based on over 2500 verified reviews bodes well for this action-packed blockbuster. However, for those of you who feel uncomfortable heading to a theater, the release window on this one is just 45 days.

In our latest review of the Marvel Studios movie, we concluded by saying: "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is nothing short of action movie perfection; this is the MCU like you’ve never seen before, and it’s no exaggeration to say Simu Liu was born to play the MCU’s newest Avenger."

How much do you guys think Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings will earn this weekend?

GREAT NEWS! Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and NO Disney Plus for 14 Days.

Word of Mouth is STRONG with this one another WIN for Marvel Studios.

Strong word of mouth and a 92% Rotten Tomatoes Critic score with a 98% Audience score. I predict a 70 to 80 million opening weekend.

This would be even more impressive when you consider that one of the biggest US markets (NY) just got slammed by Ida, although it was nothing compared to what New Orleans just went through

Is Shang-Chi opening in China and other Asian markets this weekend?

It still did worse than Black Widow, despite that film having an at-home viewing option. Hopefully, this helps Disney realize that the at-home option doesn't hurt their bottom line near as much as they thought and they give us that option with The Eternals.

@Cozo11 - I think Shang Chi well have stronger legs in the box office in next few weeks, unlike Black Widow
