SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS Star Simu Liu Says It Will "Break Records And Make History"

Like every other Marvel Studios movie, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been hit by a series of delays, but production finally wrapped in San Francisco last week. Now, the post-production stage begins, and star Simu Liu recently took to Facebook (via The Direct) to share his thoughts on what fans can expect from the Master of the Martial Arts' big screen debut.

"Nine months from now, we will break records and make history as the first superhero movie to feature an ALL-ASIAN cast that kicks so much ass it's not even funny," the actor began. "Well - that's a lie, actually, it's quite funny too. For all of us who have hated the colour of our skin, or been made to feel less than because of it; NO MORE."

"This is OUR movie, and it will be IMPOSSIBLE for Hollywood to ignore us after this," Liu continued. "I'll see you then. But probably sooner actually because I'm always on here lollll."

It's easy to see why he's excited for fans to see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, especially as, like Black Panther before it, it stands a chance to make history and break down some barriers in Hollywood. Marvel Studios has revealed next to nothing about the movie since it was announced, and we probably would have seen - or been about to see - the first trailer by now had COVID-19 not caused the entire Phase 4 slate to slip down the calendar.

For now, we'll just have to be patient, but stay tuned for more details on the movie as we have them!

I’m glad he’s pumped but his comments could alienate some folks. He should keep that in mind. He needs all audiences to see this. Keep it civil.

'' it's quite funny too.''

Tbh the gif is a joke, I'm not against fun jokes. But I hope they don't overdo it like Guardians or violently shove it in like Doctor Strange.

A serious movie with a few jokes wouldn't be bad (like Black Panther).

@DARKSIDEIS - The "it's quite funny too" bit wasn't referring to the movie itself but to Simu's assertion that the movie will break records.

@Kumkani - Huh, you're right!

@DARKSIDEIS - A film can be funny without having jokes in it. It's called character driven humor. People often get character driven humor and jokes confused.

Come to Japan. Plenty of superhero movies with an all-Asian cast being made here. I mean, just saying.

@RealTurner - he probably meant Hollywood movie, of course something made in Japan is gonna have an all-asian cast :p
though I remember watching Lupinrnager vs Patranger and being amazed at the presence of a black dude, then I remember "oh right, it's a police department, of course the chief is gonna be a black dude".

Well I'm happy he's hyped. I mean, it's his movie lol. We'll see what the world feels like in a year or two but I definitely think without Covid, Shang-Chi would have been a smash. That much is obvious.

@Kumkani - at this point I'm kinda edging my hopes that the virus will just lose steam after the new year and be like "ight imma head out" so we can be done with it. I know, completely wishful thinking and not at all how a virus works, but I can dream can't I?

strong confident personality + already rustling some jimmies, definitely a recipe for success. seriously, I think this guy has the potential to be quintessential new addition of the MCU, and we're already experimenting a renaissance of the martial arts/gun kata genre so putting the Marvel label on top of it is like throwing an atomic bomb on top of another one.
