SHAZAM Is The Next DCEU Movie To Shoot Confirms David F. Sandberg; He Also Comments On Black Adam's Absence
Shazam director David F. Sandberg confirms that his movie is the next DC film to shoot following Justice League and says Black Adam is not appearing so that the focus is solely on Billy Batson.
Hot on the heels of David F. Sandberg's hilarious script reveal for Shazam, we have a more serious chat with the director where he reveals that his superhero film is the next DCEU title slated to shoot after Justice League. He also confirms that Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam was originally in the script but reaffirms that his film wants to focus entirely on Shazam.
In light of his joke script, which revealed an epic showdown between Superman and Billy Batson, Sandberg confirmed to Film Riot [via Heroic Hollywood] that there is a finished script. “There’s a script […] It’s the next DC movie to shoot.”
In terms of what Shazam/Captain Marvel comics he's drawing inspiration from, Sandberg says he's reading them all. “I’m taking it all in. Some of those really old ones are quite fun, when he’s, like, fighting Hitler. Stuff like that. No, cause he’s been around since the 40s for, like, as long as Superman. So there’s a lot to read and that’s also interesting because he sort of has a couple of different origin stories or a couple of different takes on it. You know, you have the most recent sort of Geoff Johns version and then you have Ordwell version and then you have those really old versions.”
Lastly, Sandberg touched on the surprise that Dwayne Johnson's Black Adams would no longer be appearing in the film. “There’ve been variations of the script, like before I came along, where… you know, variations where Black Adam was in and out and, you know. But now, this is about Shazam.”
