EL MUERTO Star Bad Bunny Promises The SPIDER-MAN Spinoff Movie Will Be "Huge" And "Epic"

Sony Pictures has tapped Bad Bunny to star in El Muerto, and the rapper, aspiring actor, and occasional pro wrestler has now shared his first comments on joining the Marvel Universe. Read on for details...

During CinemaCon, Sony Pictures made no mention of Spider-Man 4 or Morbius 2 (sorry, we couldn't resist), but the studio did announce Venom 3 and El Muero. The former makes sense after the success of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, though fans were hoping for news on Spider-Woman or Black Cat rather than the reveal of a movie starring the incredibly obscure Spider-Man villain.

It sounds like Sony gave popular rapper and aspiring actor Bad Bunny his pick of character from their Spider-Man Universe and he decided to take a crack at bringing El Muerto to life. Given his love of pro wrestling, that's not overly surprising, especially as he's competed at WrestleMania for WWE.

It's hard to believe the project is a priority for Sony, but they clearly feel Bad Bunny can deliver big box office numbers. We'll certainly give the movie a chance (there's a lot to be intrigued about with this character), especially based on comments from the rapper during an interview with Apple Music.

"It’s crazy. Sometimes, I can’t believe it yet, but it’s the result of my work," Bad Bunny said of joining the Marvel Universe. "The way I am, the way I work, I’m so proud, very happy about this character, this opportunity to be the first Latino. It’s not about ‘I’m gonna be the first Latino making a role,’ it’s gonna be about the first Latino main character, that’s the important thing. So it’s something huge, and it will be epic. I know that the people are gonna be proud about my work."

As he points out, the fact this is a Latino superhero character in a lead role is a big deal. Bad Bunny could have no doubt picked anyone he wanted, but the fact he's taking this relatively obscure Latino masked luchador in an effort to put him on the map with this movie is definitely admirable.

El Muerto is set to be released in theaters on January 15, 2024.
