Madame Web is still a long way off from arriving in theaters, but with cameras still rolling on the Sony Pictures movie, we're getting more photos from the set.
Recently, a costumed villain believed to be Ezekiel Sims was shown targeting the title character. All signs point to this story explaining why Sony's Marvel Universe has no Spider-Man, with Sony potentially tying this story into the Multiverse as they look to cash in on the popular concept by placing Madame Web at the heart of their "Spider-Verse."
It's a unique approach, and these latest snaps are bound to get fans talking.
While it's a little hard to make out at first glance, Madame Web herself, Dakota Johnson, has been spotted rocking white hair. That suggests something either happens to the hero to turn her hair white or the actress is getting aged up as the story progresses.
We know the movie takes place in the early 2000s, so it jumping to the present day and showing us an older Madame Web makes sense. Sony doesn't adhere to the source material that closely, so this character could be Cassandra Webb, Julia Carpenter, or an amalgamation of both; it's sure to be a weird adventure, though, especially if the plot leaks are correct.
In the comic books, Madame Web is typically portrayed as an elderly woman who is blind and linked up to a life support system that resembles a web. She has psychic abilities and frequently uses other heroes to fight her battles, leading to speculation that this movie is actually some sort of female-led team-up.
S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) is directing Madame Web from a screenplay by Morbius scribes Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Following recent delays, the movie is currently expected to swing into theaters on February 16, 2024.
