Sony Pictures has shared a new clip from Spider-Man: No Way Home featuring the first meeting between Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin and Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus in the bowels of the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to dominate the box office, and Sony Pictures just dropped a "new" clip from the movie. This hasn't been shared online before now and gives fans the chance to relive the first meeting between the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina).

Of course, this is the first time they've crossed paths on screen, but there's clearly some history here that suggests Norman Osborn and Otto Octavius have a shared past. It's the first time we've seen them together, though, and this meeting taking place in the Sanctum Sanctorum is all sorts of crazy.

A closer look at this scene leaves us wondering just how much of what we're seeing is Norman and how much is the Goblin. There's definitely a villainous smile at one point there, anyway! Hopefully, more spoilery clips like this will be released over the coming weeks and, if that does happen, we're hoping at least one of them features the Amazing and Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Men.

"For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero," reads the movie's synopsis. "When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man."

Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, J. B. Smoove, Benedict Wong, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans. The movie is now playing in theaters!

Would Norman really have died "years ago" as far as Otto is concerned? Spider-Man 2 takes place two years after the first one, isn't "years ago" odd phrasing for just two years?

Spider-Man? I thought this was a comic book movie site. Since when is Spider-Man a comic book character?

@DwayneTheRock - I have no idea why this is relevant, but not having Kaitlyn Dever as Ellie is a massive missed opportunity. Especially after Dopesick I think so

@dragon316 - The Last of Us is being developed into a tv show, but they cast Bella Ramsey as Ellie while I think Kaitlyn Dever is the better choice.

Unless you're talking about Dopesick. That's a show about the opioid crisis with Michael Keaton, Peter Sarsgaard, Rosario Dawson and Kaitlyn Dever that I really recommend watching.

Early scripts for the first Spiderman had both the Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus

Really taking otto out of the villain side early was smart

Sandman, electro, lizard are lower level villains

Goblin and Oct working together wouldn't work, they are higher level, villains with grand plans that wouldnt work together, why do you think green goblin has never been in the sinister six

Wonder what point in the first film Goblin is taken from, his suit was still in good condition so wasnt the moment of his death

When you think about it there is no saving otto, his dialogue points to him being taken from his final battle with spiderman, so when he is sent back someone still needs to destroy the artificial sun machine or it will destroy the city. He took control of the arms at the end of the second film so having control wont change that

@dracula - he was probably transported after the Thanksgiving dinner since that was the first time he met Mary jane

@dracula - Otto also lost a tentacle fighting Goblin, he's returning to fail at sinking the machine.

@4thMaster - Well if Norman goes back cured he won’t die and then Harry won’t want revenge on Spider-Man and won’t make the deal with Doc Ock to capture him and Ock won’t get the tritium to power the machine. Although I guess they could be from different timelines.
Dafoe

@dracula - The way the rules are established so far, at bare minimum Osborn was taken after the Thanksgiving dinner. But for him to be in the suit and glider that minimum has to be after suiting up and leaving to go torture May that same night. At maximum it would have to be up until he jumps off his glider to fist fight Spidey. I don't see any other options for when he was taken.

@4thMaster - @4thMaster @dracula - I don't think so. Based on how Venom entered the MCU, they disappear from their home reality but *time* is still moving forward. The 5 villains spent about like.... 12 hours? in the MCU and since they are keeping their cures and clothing when returning I think it would be safe to assume that 12 hours back home also passed.

Osborn is cured and lives a normal live, dramatically changing the events of that realitys SM2 and SM3.

Otto returns somewhere on the dock or city and Spidey had to drown the fusion reactor himself. Probably lived as well (we see him already going for it before Otto stopped him).

Marko? Honestly hes more than likely from the same year that Tobeys Peter came from so hes perfectly okay, but now has to figure out what hes going to do without his powers (willingly go to prison? live a "normal" live?)

Connors returns cured sometime after creating that video Peter later discovers, so the final battle doesnt take place? Prison still?

Max is an interesting situation. He'll return to his reality cured but Gwen wouldve still died regardless. Events of that film's final battle do not change at all.

@Dafoe - There's no consistency to the rules. Electro never found out Peter Parker was Spiderman in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 yet is brought to Holland's Spidermans world.

Topher Grace's Venom and Dane DeHaan's Goblin found out who Spiderman was yet are not brought to Holland's Spiderman world.
Dafoe

@Ocelot - "There's no consistency to the rules."

So then what I said isn't wrong either.

@dracula @4thMaster @BloopBlorp2 @Dafoe - The last time we see Otto, he's got an Arc Reactor with him. I assume he will use that somehow to stop the machine while not dying.

Truly blessed to live in a timeline where Dafoe’s Osborn from 2002 and Alfred Molina’s Octavius from 2004 can interact and have a conversation onscreen in 2021. Truly unreal. I love this movie.

What doesn't make any sense to me is how Octavius could know that Norman was the Green Goblin. That was not public knowledge, nor was it that Spider-Man hadn't actually killed him.
4thMaster
4thMaster - 1/29/2022, 6:20 PM
Sandman in this film is underrated, I know they kept his part short but he does great work whenever he's on screen.
CassianAndor
CassianAndor - 1/29/2022, 7:52 PM
@4thMaster - Him teaming up with Electro and Lizard at the end didn’t make a lot of sense, but then him teaming up with Venom in Spider-Man 3 didn’t make a lot of sense either so I guess he’s at least consistent.
TheLobster
TheLobster - 1/29/2022, 8:08 PM
@4thMaster - the CGI work for Sandman was awful. Same with Lizard. I don’t know if COVID was the culprit but they should have had Flint in his human form.
Ocelot

Green Goblin ignoring Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man made no sense.

Osborn/Goblin here was inconsistent with the Raimi version.
