Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter Is Reportedly Keenly Interested In Spider-Gwen
According to BleedingCool.com, the Spider-Gwen solo series from Marvel received the green-light from Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter, Kevin Feige's boss. The site reports that Spider-Gwen was originally slated to only appear in Spider-Verse and Edge of Spider-Verse but Perlmutter really liked the role-reversal concept of Stacy Gwen getting bit by the radioactive spider and Peter Parker dying.
Prior to their deal with Marvel, Sony was trying to expand their Spider-Man franchise with a Sinister Six film and female Spider-Man spinoff. Many assumed that the female Spider-Man spinoff would star Black Cat, Silver Sable or Spider-Woman but what if it was Spider-Gwen all along? BC reckons that if Marvel continues to push Spider-Gwen post-Secret Wars, then don't be surprised if the character gets her own film. It would definitely be a way to totally reinvent the franchise and separate it from what Sam Raimi and Marc Webb have previously given audiences. Another question to ponder is whether Marvel and Sony would look to bring back Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy? We are talking about alternate-realities after all so all possibilities would be on the table.
Lisa Joy Nolan (Westworld) was previously hired by Sony to write the spinoff.
