Alfred Molina has expressed interest in returning as Doc Ock in future Spider-Man films...

The 'Spider-Man 2' star has told MTV news that he would love to reprise his role as the wall-crawler’s tentacled enemy in future films!

This from MTV's Splash Page-

When asked about the return of the villainous Doctor Octopus, "No one’s mentioned it, and I think it’s highly unlikely, seeing as he died,” Molina told MTV News during a press event for his upcoming film 'The Sorcerer’s Apprentice'.

“But at the ‘Spider-Man 2′ premiere in London, I turned around to one of the producers and said, ‘It’s a real shame that I died, because I would’ve loved to do another one of these.’ And he said, ‘Oh, characters don’t die in this universe, they just disappear.’”

Molina also went on to say that in future Spider-Man sequels he would prefer to see them concentrate on just one villain as, having two or three of them sort of dilutes the potency of it.”

Considering that 'Spider-Man 2' is considered by many to be the best of the three films, it doesn't seem all that unlikely that Doc Ock could potentially return...

@Keven: Since when are you a fortune teller? I suppose your one of those that thinks the article on Jamesons wall was an old, outdated one. The material for his return is there, whether they go with it or not is anyone's guess. The likelihood of him coming back isn't very high, but it is there nonetheless.

I believe Keven is a "Bugle wall doubter". Like there could possibly have been any other reason in the damn universe why Raimi would have chose to put that article in shot.

"Doc Ock still at large"

STILL. How could it have been an old article? And even if it was, why would it have been shown in the movie? Is the Daily Bugle an actual working Newspaper that keeps old clippings framed on the wall? It was a nod to Doc Ock returning. Not necessarily that he will, but leaving it so he still might.

@Rorchach01: Wow, thanks you for such a concise, yet funny coin term for it, "Bugle wall doubter" that is good shit. I completely agree with you 100%. Furthermore, I feel a Rorschambo is in order.

Grif, how did you ever get interested in comics? That is a serious question, I'm really curious.

i was very impressed with doc oc in spidey 2. but idk if bringin him back is a good idea. it wouldnt be a bad choice but i think it would be cool to see someONE new.

That would rock if they brought back Dock Ock.I'd buy that for a dollar.

I always kinda thought Ock was still alive just from the line "I will not die a monster".Plus he's just too cool to kill off after just one flick.

TheMyth - 6/11/2009, 4:26 PM
@Keven: That is a good point if it were real life, but it isn't, it's a movie with only 139 minutes of runtime and I don't think Raimi would have made sure it made it into a shot willy-nilly. Aside from that your logic is very sound, nice deductions, really.

@Torque: Bringing him back for SM4 would be a bad idea, I agree. I am rooting for a Lizard/Kraven combination. It wouldn't be a bad thing though to hint more at it in an SM5(if we get one) and utilize him for the Sinister Six in a SM6(an even bigger if)

You know, when Spider-Man first met Doc Ock he never landed a punch until the end, gave him one fist to the face, and BAM! Knocked him out cold. So in the comics they do address Doc Ock as just a regular joe schmoe with four mechanical arms.

Regardless, I'd like to see his return in the movie. However, I rather them focus on new villains, and maybe reintroduce him again later or something...bring on Sinster Six!

Keven: are you even a comic book or comic book movie fan!? No fan wouldnt want Doc Ock to return or see the Sinister Six (who will be in Spider-Man 6-the marketing just works!)

After they made the Green Goblin look like a power ranger (the character was good tit was just the costume that screwed it up) and made the sandman boring and venom pathetic, doc ock has been the best spidey villain so far-bring him back!!!

Electro/Scorpion are still my top choices for Spider-Man 4, they would both be a lot more visualy exciting than the lizard (basically a jurassic park style cgi effect) and kraven (a man in a leotard)!

just be careful with the next 2 films. thats all i want raimi to do. spiderman has so many interesting villains that idc who is in it. all i ask is that he takes good care of the next 2 films

They need to leave Doc Ock, Alfred Molina, his tremendous man-titties, and the entire Spider-man franchise at the bottom of the East River where it belongs. Seriously, this franchise doesn't deserve a 4th movie. Let's not speak of a 5th or (gulp) 6th movie just yet.
MisterNiceGuy
MisterNiceGuy - 6/11/2009, 4:41 PM
i sort of agree with that. i would rather they give up now and just wait some years for a reboot of the franchise but thats obviously not gonna happen so im just gonn hope that they do work in the next one.

UatU - 6/11/2009, 4:42 PM
Though it was never mentioned in the movies, it's always been known that Spider-Man intentionally pulls his punches in order to avoid injuring his normal human opponents.

Spider-Man 3 was awful, but I dont think it was bad enough that the whole franchise should be killed off!
JeremyBentham
JeremyBentham - 6/11/2009, 4:44 PM
please no, doc ock was a great spiderman villain in that movie. at the rate the franchise has been declining from the 3rd movie, i dont want my image of him to be defiled upon
JeremyBentham
JeremyBentham - 6/11/2009, 4:46 PM
i agree josh.

dont waste the time, money, and attention span to reboot, just make a better movie next time.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 6/11/2009, 4:54 PM
exactly jeremy! they just need to look at what they did wrong, move on from the uncle ben flashbacks, make peter and mj more mature and use some decent villains like they did in 1 and 2-if they f**k up spider-man 4 as well, then lets start looking at changing actors, directors etc.

At least spider-man 3 wasnt like x-men 3! that film killed off so many characters and ruined so many storylines it really did kill off the franchise!

THEY SHOULDNT CALL THE NEXT ONE SPIDERMAN 4, AFTER 3 THEY NEED TO DO TITLE SWITCH UPS, LIKE HOW NOLAN DID BATMAN..BATMAN BEGINS..THE DARKNIGHT,...HOW ABOUT WEB OF SPIDERMAN..

He does have a point they never seem to die they are either revisited or just "disappear" for a while. Keven, it is possible to bring him back it is a COMIC BOOK MOVIE after all. Based in HIGH FICTION, and it can be MANIPULATED to do whatever the director pleases and bring back whoever he wants. The end of Spider-man 2 we see him falling slowly to the bottom of the river, never does his body disintegrate or any such thing. Maybe his tentacles that already affected his mind take over his brain functions entirely and manage to save his life? See LOOP HOLES!

Shadowelfz - 6/11/2009, 5:20 PM
I think they're definately going to hold the Sinister Six for the Spiderman 6. The marketing opportunity for that would be too good to pass up for the studios.

Doctor Ock coming back would be great. Although he died, in the movie and comic world they can come up with any excuse, no matter how convoluted, to bring someone back. As long as there is money to make off it, writers and studios will compromise their characters, though, in this case, I wouldnt mind them bringing Ock back ;)

droopy1317 - 6/11/2009, 5:23 PM
i had said this a long time ago, there's the article with doc ock still at large. and keven was saying no police saw him blah blah blah. and does grif like ANY comic movies? and for everyone who is sayin no more movies, there will be one, we win, you lose. stop crying. bring doc ock back IF they make a sixth one for sinister six. AND I'M DONE BITCHES! BOOYAH!

@Joshw24: I disagree about Sandman. He was deviated in character from the books, but he was definitely not boring. The scenes with him where some of the best in the franchise, until that sand-giant at the end. Electro is one of the few movie worthy Spidey rogues left. I don't feel the same about Scorpion. I think he would come off as a bad combination of Doc Ock and Spidey himself. But how can you not see the greatness of a Lizard/Kraven story!? I would never want to see Kraven used in a movie for any other purpose, as I think he is pretty lame, but putting him in a story with the Lizard... it writes itself. Having Lizard would be a bit more than Jurassic Park comes to Spidey lol. He is one of Spidey's most brutal, visceral, and deadly opponents. People keep calling for Carnage(ugh) Imagine Spidey wading through sewers and finding his lair filled with torn and ravaged human bodies, maybe a dog in there too, and Kraven hunting them both. Quite a new spin when the hero is trying to avoid being stuffed and mounted.

Reboots are for sissy's.
JoshWilding
JoshWilding - 6/11/2009, 5:32 PM
TheMyth: it wasnt sandman i found boring it was his character-especially all the uncle ben stuff-still leaves a bad taste in my mouth...ben is dead and they should stop dragging him up in the movies (flashback in spidey 2 etc) ben is a big part of spider-man but they shouldnt keep dwelling on it. when you put lizard/kraven that way it sounds pretty damn good, lol! And i agree Carnage would be a terrible villain in comparison to Spidey's other classic villains. i would personally find spider-man vs electro or spider-man vs scorpion more exciting than kraven or lizard but i would be happy to see any of them on the big screen! JJJ creating the scorpion to go after spidey would be a great story tho, i think!

Like I said before the train fight scene was killer and I would love nothing more than to see a big screen version of the Sinister 6. But since Raimi cant handle three villains I am not sure if he can handle six all together.

billyblack, money doesn't matter to me. being a fairy clown doesn't pay well so its an issue for you. ok. i don't care if its good or bad, i'll still back it up. shit, sm3 wasn't that bad. everyone can laugh. you can laugh clown because i don't give a dam. spiderman is the best comic movie series PERIOD! use that stick for something else. BOOYAH!

Raimi will have to extend the movie by another hour if he wants the sinister six in the movie which would be AWESOME. but theirs a downside to this it could be another hour of sleeping inside the movie house. so i say it could be good if raimi has the chops to direct with so much main characters but like what ironknight here said if he blew the spider-man 3 then good-bye sinister six.

as long as its done right, the sinister six will be awesome, booyah!!! they could do it over two movies-part 1 and part 2 like they're doing with the last harry potter or whatever!

alten, no i don't, i just got carried away lol. but yea, there were some things about the 3rd i didn't like. it didn't turn out great like the first 2 cuz venom. they should've waited. but just cuz 1 failed doesn't mean the rest will. sam is brilliant and i have faith in him. ok, i'm calm now

venom was a problem in s3 but there was a lot worse problems than that. it was just a sloppy movie. it was all over the place. the acting wasnt takin very seriously and there was so much unessasary bullshit, it was rediculous.
