Until today, the latest news on the Spidey reboot being Sony Saying the Reboot Humbles Them! & rumored guys to takeover the role, but all have proven inaccurate. And with the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America being the most talked about Marvel heroes, leaving Web-head in the shadows of the media.

But now today, THR has brought Spidey back in the picture with reports that "The veteran screenwriter, Alvin Sargent, is doing a production polish as the studio runs with eight legs toward a planned shoot later this year.

While this is no surprise, being that Sargent has reworked the previous 'Spider-Man' franchise, and would have even worked on the fourth installment to that franchise, but of course it was scrapped.

THR includes that The new “Spider-Man” is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies. Word is that Peter Parker will be a 17-year-old high school kid struggling with shifting hormones and an outsider status. And let’s not forget the death of his uncle. And the studio is working off a script by Jamie Vanderbilt, who wrote “Zodiac” and a draft of “Spider-Man 4” before the studio scrapped its plans for the sequel to re-start the series.

With director Marc Webb's vision, we can expect to see the new Spidey on the big screen July 3rd 2012, same year as the third installment of the Batman films, plus Marvel Studio's Avengers. Boy what a year 2012 will be.

Good lord, that guy is 83!Seems a little "mature" to be crafting a story about a teen superhero.

Wish we could petition rights back to Marvel. Sony and Fox will be making reboot after reboot.

I agree with kenny. This guy hasn't been a teenager for years, how would he remember enough to write a script about the life of one? Guess I'll have to wait and see what he comes up with.

@AvengingAngel1022 - I agree! They should start making all marvel related movies in the new Marvel Movie Universe. There could be so many more posibilities in the future that way. Not to mention, Spidey isn't the only superhero in New York. :) (p.s. I know that spidey now lives in SF, CA with the X-men but his origions are still in NY ;)

He wrote Raimi's series. You all keep forgetting that.

Seriously, do the slightest bit of digging and you'll find that.

Idiots? Right, because 3 was SUCH a great movie. Yes, he did write the first three movies which happened to be about Peter Parker maturing into an adult. He barely spent anytime in High school in those movies. You should also refrain from the obnoxious use of sentence caps, idiot. =/

im surprised it wasnt the high school musical writer xD

anyways... im not going to bother to watch this flick and i say unless its critically acclaimed that every comicbookmovie and movie fan in general should boycott the film.

I might rent it just to c how bad it turns out.

"a 17-year-old high school kid struggling with shifting hormones and an outsider status"

My favourite comic book character ruined. I'd like to murder the person who came up with this high school reboot idea. With my bare hands.

Sony owns the Spiderman movie franchise, Fox has nothing to do with it. I just wish Marvel could own the movie rights to Spidey again, but one can only dream...

We should all boycot this movie so that Marvel can get the rights back and do it right. That way, he can have a cameo in Avengers 2. Let's start the new petition boys!!!

I'm going to hold judgement on this movie til later. I don't want to knock it before it's even made. I don't know what to think of all of this though. Maybe this Spider-Man will be witty like he was in the comics. Please Sony don't ruin Spider-Man. That being said, here's to optimism! lol

Please don't have The Vulture in the movie!!...Get redemption for Venom and give all the Spiderman fans the movie they have wanted since day 1. Give us Venom and a Green Goblin backstory. Try not to rehash the origin of Spidey too much so we have a good movie and not just some redue of Spiderman 1. If it is a carbon copy of Spiderman 1 I will be supremely disapointed and will beg for another reboot.

MTL: I've seen Peter Parker in high school 8 years ago during the first movie and he hasnt been there in the comic books for 40 years. I want to see a faithful adaptation of the Peter Parker that I read every week, not an Ultimate inspired version that Sony are only making to draw in all the idiots who go and watch trash like Twilight.
SpiderBat209
SpiderBat209 - 5/14/2010, 8:53 PM
Raimi gave us a great run! Sadly, Misney & Sony want to cash in on the MTV/HSM/DisneyChannel/Twilight/Nickelodeon Zombies!

(Shhh. Don't tell my kids, I called them that. lol) ;)

But I have faith that Spider Man will be done justice. Saw 500 Days of Summer, and Webb has the potential to tell a good Peter Parker story. Let's hope he can get the Spidey half right. *fingers crossed* :)

tazmaniak - 5/14/2010, 9:05 PM
JoshW, I think you're contradicting yourself. You say you want a faithful adaptation, but you don't want this. This is a faithful adaptation. This is the essence of Spider-Man.The Spider-Man you read every week comes later. You can't just start off with an adult. That's the exact opposite of faithful.

I just don't understand people. They complain about comic book movies being changed, but when one is just like the comics, they want to crucify someone.

I wish they would just give the fans the movie we want. Chris Nolan did that with Begins and TDK and look what happened, a billion dollars and a gaurenteed hit for a third movie. I can already tell Webb is going to make a shit Spiderman movie. This sucks. I wish Marvel would sue Sony into getting the rights back so we can get the real Spiderman not the Sony version.

that would be so sweet if he involves a avenger or all of them in the movie. just even a quick crossover or cameo.

I just have that feeling. Sony pulled so much crap with Raimi and now they have Webb who has directed one movie to my knowledge and I bet their going to push him around to make as much money as possible. You already know they want Zack Efron as the Peter and they want to make Spiderman for kids. Most of the fans are not kids anymore. Reboot means to start over...it seems like we just had the origin of Spiderman and now they want to retell it again? EVERYBODY that is a fan knows Spidey's origin and we don't need to see a entire movie devoted to that again and have the Vulture as the main villain...

Sure Marvel sold the rights to them but that was well before they went through the renaissance they are going through now with all the films they are making. If they had held onto the rights we would of had a Spiderman movie series that we could be proud of, not some dancing BS and intentionally ruined villains. What was the deal with Harry Osborn in #3, that costume was horrendous. I have zero faith until I see a trailer and from what I've heard so far thats all I'm going to see from this project. I will not spend money on Spiderman 3D.
TheseScars
TheseScars - 5/14/2010, 10:54 PM
...and now they bring in Sargent for a rewrite? Isn't that the guy that wrote the first 3 films? Jeez, Sony loves to rehash mistakes and premises with this series don't they. Brian Bendis was the way to go allll the way. They should of let him take full control and feed Webb the script and ideas for action and let Webb riff off of those ideas, but no...they let the same guy that had a hand in dumbing down Spiderman in the first 3 movies come in a do a rewrite of what I thought was one of the best reads of any superhero script.

They don't care about Spiderman and Peter Parker. They care about money and toys and getting as many sequels and reboots out there as possible so they can hold those rights. It's pathetic and thats why people like Chris Nolan are over at WB and won't be leaving any time soon bc Warners gets the right people and lets them produce their vision that is true to the character....not some ready made toy movie.

Ranger14 - 5/14/2010, 11:09 PM
I really don't get it. If they feel they have to reboot and go back to the beginning, why hire the same guy who wrote the first three shows? Wouldn't you want to start fresh with someone new? A few movies in and they will want to reboot again and we will never see the full development of Spidey and all the villains we want to see.

Of course, I don't care for reboots anyway for reason I just stated...if you keep starting over, it is never going to get anywhere. :-(
