My opinion of the 2012 reboot, the Sam Raimi 3 and the future of Spidey...

When I heard that Spider-Man was going to be a reboot I was like, what happened to the supposed second trilogy, I thought Malkovich confirmed himself as Vulture, I thought Raimi said he was working on part 4. I was angry because Tobey Maguire was a perfect Peter Parker/Spider-Man, I honestly don't know why most people didn't like him as the web slinger.

Spider-Man was a great film we we had a great cast, except Kirsten Dunst as MJ and I hated the web shooters so having the web be his bones liquifying and becoming sticky was better to me, I loved Spider-Man
Spider-Man 2 was his struggle on being a hero and I am glad we saw that struggle and then when he threw away the costume it showed Raimi's commitment to the comics.

Spider-Man 3 was epic as well, now let me say if you didn't like it because there were too many villains, let me break this down, he was only battling one villain at a time remmember? Harry first then he lost his memory, Then Sandman(epic casting), then he and Harry teamed up against Sandman and Venom(Topher Grace is the worst choice for a comic book role ever). The fight scenes were great, we got Venom and the symbiote. Plus to many villains, thats 3 villains and one of them reformed his ways, actually 2 of them reformed their ways, and what would you have said if Raimi put the Sinister Six in a Spidey film, who wouldn't want to see the Sinister Six, no matter what anyone says Spider-Man 3 is on the list of great Comic Book Movies.

Then we got the rumor of Spider-Man 4, I was happy then a poor family on tax refund day, then it turns out it will be rebooted, I was angry so we find out Marc Webb someone with a short director career and Andrew Garfield someone who has barely acted are the new Raimi and Maguire I have questions:

#1.How do you find a better Norman Osborn/Green Goblin than Willem Dafoe?

#2.How do you find a better JJJ than JK Simmons?

#3.Can he be nerdier than Maguire?

#4.Why would it be basic of the Ultimate Spider-Man when most people like LEEE777 hate the Ultimate universe?

#5.How do you make a better Spidey film than Spider-Man 2?

#6.Why reboot it, why don't you reboot bullshit CBM's like Catwoman, Steel, Fantastic Four (I know they are already rebooting this I'm just saying) or The Punisher, oh wait they rebooted Punisher twiced and its failed at the box office three times?

#7.Will this cast be better than the first ones?

#8.How are you going to deliver that great movie feel to it like Raimi did?

I can't wait to see the reboot so I can compare it to the Trilogy
Oh yeah and that face Maguire made when Harry died, come on guys his best friend, Uncle, parents, basically whole family died and his Aunt is sick, Harry is the closest thing he had to a brother and he died trying to save Peter's life, thats called acting.

Tank the reboot, bring back Spider-Man 4,5 and 6 plans please God, oh and God destroy Fox studios and have Sony sell Marvel back their rights to their characters, Amen.

Vulture is one of Spidey's classic foes. After 3 brilliant movies yes I am quite sure it would have worked just fine.

Nice set of questions MrAnonymous. I am betting the answer to most of them is 'You can't'.

Spider-Man 2 was an amazing movie, except the fact that Dunst is no way relatible to MJ and the only time she had RED hair was in the first movie, in 2 and 3 she has orange hair.
Andrew will be a good spidey, I will miss the original spidey with Toby, but maybe this one will be done right, with Gwen Stacy, Liz Allen, Flash tompson. The death of gwen stacy? and the Goblins costume sucked in Spider-man 1, He didn't even do the finger zap thing :P

Everyone wants Marvel to get there rights back, but spider-man is a mad cash cow! there's no way sony's going to give there rights back,
so there are ups and downs to this movie,
And no! its not going to be Ultimate based and as LEE says "Were going to have the ultimate goblin" no there have been several interviews and rumors saying its going to be mostly Spectacular based Spidey with a little of Ultimate and Amazing.

Excellent article @ MrAnonymous!!!

Its a pity

Scottryan15 @ I hope you get your Ultimate Goblin dude I really do... apart from SPIDEY 3, the SPIDEY movies are amazing!!!

Reboots are just for cop outs, only CBM's that need rebooting is the crappy X-men movies!

Just like how in the comics we get to see different writers and artists do their interpretations of these characters, I'm excited we're finally getting to a point where we can get different screen interpretations as well. For all those that love Raimi's movies, well, they aren't going anywhere. For those of us that like Raimi's movies okay but think some things could be done better, maybe it's exciting to see what someone else comes up with.

I agree, Ive been saying the Reboot will suck, and why do people forget its opening up against Star Trek 2, cmon think about that.

dlineman517 - 9/12/2010, 9:08 AM
I'm mixed on this reboot for the exact reasons you mentioned. On one hand with the exception of spider-man 3 the original franchise was very successful and captured the feel of the original comics and im not sure how they can top it. However I would like to see the Ultimate Spider-man universe brought to life on the big screen

joekerr93 - 9/12/2010, 9:15 AM
im going to take a page out of LEEE777's book and say [frick] THE REBOOT

at the very least make Marc Webb's movie a continuation of Spiderman 3, do an Incredible Hulk type reboot

HOLY SHIT!!! I just realized why they hired Marc Webb to direct, its coz his last name is WEBB!! Or not, i was trying to defend Sony....No [frick] this, they have no excuse

flames809 - 9/12/2010, 10:10 AM
clay- yea im thinking about and star trek will lose movie more talked about between star trek and spiderman is spiderman.

lee- x-men is a big hit and the audience like it so they not going to reboot it until a few years. and so you say x1 & x2 & x3 are bad movies?

MrAnonymous- you can find better actors for the job, and yea he can be nerdier than Tobey scene from his other movies, Ultimate Spider-Man an amazing will be mix in this movie, from the looks of who they want for the roles it will be a great cast, and from how the actor is talking about the film and the direction they going the movie will be way better than raimi spiderman film.

jokerr93- yea they have an excuse raimi idea for part 4 sucked thats why they rebooting it and doing it better then the previous films
joekerr93
joekerr93 - 9/12/2010, 10:41 AM
actually they wanted carnage, he wanted vulture, he didnt think he could make the movie by the deadline, etc.

i highly doubt that the story we saw was actually what they were going to do.

Great article this is my thoughts exactly I think that this whole reboot thing is sh#t and it sounds horrible. Why does everyone hate Dunst so much I would totally do her.

Why can't they get Raimi and Maguire back and do Kraven the Hunter and the Lizard.
sweetre15
sweetre15 - 9/12/2010, 11:36 AM
@SuperBatSpiderMan: Because Raimi rather make John Malkovich dress up like a bird instead of using Lizard and Kraven...... that's why

When the first Spidey film came out Sam Raimi said in a interview, that Spider-Man will not have web shooters his bones let of a sticky web like substance. he explained the bones liquifying because the webs won't magically come out of nowhere, but its great to know that someonee else besides me hates the web shooters
joekerr93
joekerr93 - 9/12/2010, 1:33 PM
MrAnonymous - I never even knew that he had web shooters until long after i saw spiderman, so when i found out, i was shocked and confused. why does SPIDERMAN not have any SPIDER powers???

web shooters are lame and harder to believe (imo) than natural webs from his wrists

This article makes no sense.

1- Easy, find an actor who both resembles Norman more, and can play the part closer to the source material...Willem Dafoe is a great actor but he's not the be all and end of all of the Green Goblin.

2- Same as the above really, find an actor who fits the physical description and can play the part extremley well.

3-Why would we want him any nerdier than Maguire? The Raimi Spidey's "nerdiness" turned into "pussiness" (if that's a word) Spidey isn;t defined JUST for being a geeky character.

4- It's not going to be BASED on the Ultimate Universe entirley, chances are they'll take elements from ultinmate, amazing, tv shows and probably even raimi's movies...that's what happens when you make a movie...it's a whole other universe to the comics. And so what if LEE hates the Ultimates, he doesn't speak on behalf of everyone. Most people thoroughly enjoyed Ultimate Spider-Man, get your facts straight.

5- Don't try to, just try to make a good, entertaining Spider-Man film and hope that people enjoy it as much as they can.

6- Because the Raimi series was OVER. Spider-Man 3 wrapped up the trilogy nicley, Harry died, Peter and MJ fixed thier problems, Peter finally accepted his Uncle's death. It was the end. The 4th film they planned was going to be terrible, a female Vulture called the Vultress, Spider-Man having a kid etc...it was entering Batman and Robin territory...it was in serious need of a reboot.

7-Probably, so far so good, Andrew Garfield fits PP much better than Tobey Maguire.

8- That doesn't even make sense? "Great movie feel?" I'm pretty sure every movie, feels like a movie.

Stop jumping on the bandwagon and actually accept that the reboot will more than likley be good.

These are why I mostly doubt the reboot. Dafoe and Simmons did some really nice job back there.

Well, good luck!

P.S: Ultimate is OK/not bad, but do not use the Green Goblin of that version!

MTL, you rule. Seriously, I want that picture as my desktop background, it's so awesome :)

1. Dafoe was great, no, fantastic. I agree, and it will be hard to top him. But there are actors out there who are just as talented as him and could probably do just as great a job. Ralph Fiennes, Bryan Cranston, among others.

2. Personally, they should, IMO, tone down JJ and make him not used purely for comedy. For that type of characterization, Clancy Brown would be an amazing Jonah, and while we will always remember and love Simmons, things move on.

3. He shouldn't have to be "nerdier" than Maguire.

4. As has already been stated, Lee does not speak for the majority, and I doubt they are using Ultimate as their only source of inspiration. Ultimate Spidey does have elements that would make for a great Spider-Man film, BTW.

5. Well, not stress over trying to one-up SM2 and just make the best film they can. Kind of biased, there, don't you think? It's unfair to judge a movie when it hasn't even come out yet against another movie which it will, most likely, be quite different from.

6. IDK, maybe because they didn't like the way SM4 was going? Who knows? Who cares? They're rebooting. Get over it.

7. It might be. They're already off to a better start with Garfield.

8. What does that even mean?

"I can't wait to see the reboot so I can compare it to the Trilogy"

Yeah, because that's totally fair and unbiased, to compare the reboot, which is most likely trying to separate itself from Raimi's films, with Raimi's films. Genius.

Thank god for this article and the Death of a Legend one. I usually never bash a movie before ive at least seen the trailer but what Sony has done with rebooting the franchise is just unforgivable and incredibly stupid. The Spider-Man trilogy is fan-[frick]ing-tastic. Bullshit to anyone who says different. Youll stop youre bitchin an moanin once the reboot comes out. Youll be on your knees beggin for Raimi and Co. to come back. One bad movie (Spidey 3 wasnt that bad tho) does NOT mean a great series needs to be rebooted. Im mean talk about to soon. I feel like what Sony did is worse than everything Fox has one put together. I mean come on Sony. Spider-Man 4 woulda made them SO much money. Raimi knew what he was doin. Why the [frick] do the suits alays have to get involved. Just let the god damn director do what they want. I hope to god the reboot bombs so hard. RAIMI FOR THE WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. check your grammar before you post something. seriously, "Why would it be basic of the Ultimate Spider-Man" why would it be the basic? come on dude.

I posted this for the "Death of a Legend" article, but I think it will work well here too... so here ya go.

“Death of a Legend,” Please give me a [frick]ing break.

1. Only one out of three Raimi Spiderfilms was really good.

2. The plot and villains of Spider-Man 4 sounded utterly ridiculous.

3. The budget for Spider-Man 4 was reaching upwards of $280 MILLION, you think they can't make one for $80, you're nuts. Raimi was spending more and more with each film, he was a kid in a candy store with no real direction. There was a $200+ Million budget for SM3, but I didn’t see a movie with that budget on the screen. Did you? Bad effects, bad story, stale cinematography, come on. No wonder the studio balked at the budget for SM4.

4. Maguire was only a decent Peter, and a bland uncharismatic Spider-Man.

5. What is wrong with mixing up Spidey a little? Every version we've seen from 616 to Ultimates to all the animated shows have their own spin; good aspects and bad. If they can take the best aspects from each one what's the problem.

6. Raimi's butchering of villains was annoying. Not everyone is a tragic good man gone bad. Doc Ock: dead. Green Goblin: Dead. Venom: Dead. Never heard of [frick]ing jail? The Vault? Something?!

7. Raimi left no room for Spidey to grow aside from marriage and children. Who really wanted to see that?

8. The reboot allows us to see Gwen and Peter and the emotional impact of her death on him. Good character development.

9. Spider-Man was too bland in the Raimi films. Where was the fun, the wittiness of the character? Where was the smart ass? All we had was an overly serious weepy miserable little crybaby shit. Spider-Man is Peter's release. In the mask he gains confidence and a whole new persona, in the Raimiverse there was virtually no difference in Peter or Spidey.

10. MJ just utterly [frick]ing sucked. Don't you want a proper MJ?

11. Garfield is too old? Toby is [frick]ing 35! By Spidey 5 he would be 40? What is the cut off age? Would we not have to recast at SOME point? Jesus.

12. Update your info. The plot has been adjusted to college not high school.

I'm sick of this crybaby shit. All of you grow the [frick] up, get a pair of nuts and move on with life already. The reboot is happening, [frick]ing deal with it. Go see it; don't go see it. If you're so morally and ethically offended by the idea of it don't [frick]ing see it. Half the "[frick] the reboot" crowd knows they're going to see it anyway if the trailer looks even remotely good. Stop being [frick]ing babys. There are how many article just TODAY whining about this. And it is WHINING. Bitching about something you cannot change IS WHINING. [frick]ing ENOUGH ALREADY!

Rant over.

i do think this reeboot was fine the only good one out of the three was the second one. Garfield is definitely up for the challenge. I never liked the original cast accept JJJ who was amazing, but I also think it should take little things from Ultimate like Ben living longer and being at school more. I want to se more humor in the reboot that is a must.

Ron Gary Sinise as Norman Osborne would be PERFECT. Willem Dafoe was good.

A. Tobey as Spider-man was horrible, aside from the tears, he only cracked like 3 jokes the entire trilogy, where the hell was Spider-mans WIT!?

B. Jon Malkovich as Vulture, BRILLIANT, Copycat sex change villain Vulturess? HAH!! Idiotic.

C. Web shooters please, Spider-man in the comics and shows was able to TWEAK his webbing from extra sticky, to adding a chemical compound so it was water resistant, or whatever he needed for the job.

D. Harry as the "NEW GOBLIN"? Are you serious? as opposed to taking over the power ranger suit his father war, let's give him Snowboarding gear and stick him on a flying snowboard?

E. JJJ Was perhaps the best cast person in those movies JK Simmons was perfect. No complaint there.

F. Punisher with Tom Jane OWNED!!!

G. If they do the Mary Jane love interest, maybe they won't screw it up!?

H. If they do the Gwen Stacey love interest, maybe they won't screw it up!?

I. Eddie Brock JR. <--- JR.? That's an ultimate character, i'd say mixed with the original venom story line, but they botched that too.
