During last year's CinemaCon, Sony Pictures officially announced plans for Venom 3 and El Muerto. At the same event in Las Vegas this week, Kraven the Hunter was highlighted, but there was no mention of any other Marvel movies or Spider-Man 4.
Based on what we've heard, Sony gave popular rapper and aspiring actor Bad Bunny his pick of characters from their Spider-Man Universe and he decided to take a crack at bringing El Muerto to life.
Given his love of pro wrestling, that's not overly surprising, especially as he's competed at WrestleMania for WWE. In fact, Bad Bunny will square off with Damian Priest in a Street Fight at WWE Backlash in Puerto Rico next month (you'll want to stay tuned to TheRingReport.com for news about that).
While the character briefly tussled with Spider-Man in the squared circle, his main foe is El Dorado, a supernatural being who is responsible for granting his family these supernatural abilities. However, a new rumour shared by insider Daniel Richtman claims that Sony is eyeing Marvin "Krondon" Jones (Black Lightning) to take on the role of Tombstone in this spin-off project.
The actor starred as Tobias Whale in The CW series and actually lent his voice to Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Other scoopers have since argued that El Muerto is nowhere near far along enough to be casting any roles (Ana de Armas was recently said to be in line for the movie's female lead) so we'll see what happens.
Jonás Cuarón is attached to direct the movie based on a screenplay by Garreth Dunnet-Alcocer.
As for whether El Muerto will meet its planned January 12, 2024 release date, that also remains to be seen. However, seeing as cameras haven't begun rolling yet, we're anticipating an imminent delay.
