We had no idea this was even in the works, but during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France yesterday, a new animated Spider-Verse short film titled The Spider Within was announced, with Shameik Moore reprising his role as Miles Morales from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

The short will put a very different spin on what we've seen from the first two Spider-Verse movies, presenting what's been described as a "horror-tinged" story, as Miles' anxiety manifest in the form of sleep paralysis.

While speaking to The Wrap, director Jarelle Dampier explained what inspired his work on the short.

"My favorite genre is horror. I think it’s the perfect envelope to give great messages out, especially to younger audiences, and I think it’s something that we’ve kind of shied away from for a long time. But I think if you take a character that kids really love and you put that character in a thrilling situation, I think they get a lot out of it. I say kids, but really I’m talking about all of us. I’m talking about the kid inside of us, you know what I mean? The ability to use something scary with something we love, I think that’s the combination to landing the points, sticking the landing in the film."

Dampier wasn't willing to disclose much more about the project or its place in the timeline, adding that he'd rather "wait a little bit. I will say that there are several Easter eggs inside of the short."

Check out a first-look image of Morales along in his bedroom below.

No premiere date has been announced, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.

In Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, after reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The confirmed voice cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Jason Schwartzman, Daniel Kaluuya, Shea Whigham, Jorma Taccone, Luna Lauren Vélez, and Brian Tyree Henry.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is now playing in theaters worldwide

Again, too much Spider-Man. He's getting diluted to the point of irrelevance.

I really thought that the short film would be released this week to keep up the momentum with the latest Spider-Verse, so this is bummer.

Nice pic with that said.

Off-topic:

-James Gunn was in the latest entry of Michael Rosenbaum's Inside of You podcast and he said several things. First of all that "(I mean) the first DCU character for sure is Blue Beetle and the first DCU movie is Superman."

https://twitter.com/Bluebeetlenews/status/1668644444550369281

-He also said that Peacemaker S2 (or whatever format he chooses, he could go for a movie for all we know) will take place after he is done working on the Superman: Legacy film. So he will be busy in 2025 doing Peacemaker in other words.

"Peacemaker is coming back right after Superman. I'll go straight from Superman into Peacemaker."

https://twitter.com/homeofdcu/status/1668652023028363264

-He compares the amount of different locations in DC (Gotham, Metropolis, Star City, Bludhaven etc) as if they were Westeros (lmao) and how it helps for worldbuilding.

https://twitter.com/DaveTheAnodite/status/1668659316033826827

-And he just revealed something: just like he shared months ago that he was assigned to develop a Superman film for WB way before he signed the dotted line to be the co-CEO head of DC Studios, apparently he had already seen The Flash movie long before he got the job.

"#TheFlashMovie premiere was amazing; the movie killed it, just like I knew it would when I first saw it and fell in love with it almost a year ago, long before I was the co-head of DC Studios. It's a magnificent film - fun, funny, and emotional, and I can't wait for you all to see it this weekend!"

I wonder if he got the chance to see it before or after Ezra Miller's criminal spree of felonies took place. Seems that he got special privileges from WAY before. The luck some people have.

-Latest box office predictions point to Flash earning $68M in the opening weekend.

-Zazie Beetz about Joker 2:

“I think people will be surprised. I don’t think it’s going to be what they expect, around it being musical,” Beetz, who is reprising her role as Sophie Dumond for “Joker: Folie à Deux,” told Variety Monday at Chanel’s Tribeca Film Festival Artists Dinner in New York. “We all sort of express musically and dancing in our lives day-to-day. I think it’s going to work really well.”

“She’s super warm and kind,” Beetz said of her new co-star. “I felt very welcome with her on set. She was doing her own character work and stuff, but she’s a very grounded person. She’s just Stefani.”

-Dylan Walsh, who plays General Sam Lane in Superman & Lois, announced that he won't be back as a series regular after due to the budget cuts negotiations it took to get the show a 4th Season. Huge loss and just what I was fearing about what it took to get this.

-We have the first plot synopsis about El Muerto BTW.

"A wrestler gains super power through a mystical mask who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison."

And also and because I miss the show so damn much (screw you Nexstar and Zaslav for selling the network to them) here is a very funny deleted scene from the Stargirl Season 3 DVD between Pat Dugan and Larry Crusher aka Sportsmaster about the former asking the latter for advice of how to deal with when your kid starts to date.

@NinnesMBC - your comment makes me realize you'd make good articles too, and that we could use a community board for us users to post small bits of stuff on (kinda like a subreddit I suppose)

@bkmeijer1 - Thank you, I appreciate it. =) I never have done something like that, but maybe one day I'll have enough courage and organize my ideas well to give it a shot.

@Kadara - You're welcome!

Wanna add something about S&L S4: Dylan Walsh passed on 3/10 episodes of S4. So the option of recurring is no longer even available from what I understand.

I'm not really a horror fan and don't really see how this ties in, but sure.

Off topic: Disney "accidently" hired a male pornstar for the cast of The Little Mermaid.
Luckily, the movie is a flop, so no one has noticed him. 🤣

@tmp3 - Sure. I like tons of stuff.
Not much that has come out in the last few years though.
This generally happens as you get older. You'll see.

Seriously though, the last CBM I enjoyed following Endgame was NWH, but everything since then ranged from meh to shit for me. The WRITING has gone way downhill with the MCU imo, and it was always shit with DC. Just my take.

@Dingus - It's a Disney movie that's been covered extensively on this site.
Me putting up a funny link about it would hardly be an obession compared to the dozens of threads created about it.

You don't HAVE to click on the link. 😉

@Feralwookiee - No it hasnt. Nobody has mentioned it on [frick]ing months. I just find it weird you know all this stuff over a little girls movie
